The voice AI wars are heating up. Granola, best known for its AI meeting notetaker, has launched a dictation feature today — going head-to-head with Wispr, the dictation startup that recently launched its own meeting notetaker. Each company is now building the other’s flagship feature.

The new feature works on Mac just like any voice typing tool: press the Fn key, start speaking, and Granola cleans up and formats your speech before dropping the final text wherever you’re typing. It works across all apps, so users can post notes, dictate AI prompts, or reply to emails and messages hands-free.
Unlimited Words, Free — and More Platforms Coming
Granola is pitching it simply: “Unlimited words, for free.” The company says the feature will arrive on iOS and Windows soon, expanding beyond the Mac-only launch.
The convergence is no coincidence. Granola (valued at $1.5 billion) has been laser-focused on meeting-related automation and notetaking, while Wispr (valued at $2 billion) is building its own AI models through a research lab exploring new human-computer interfaces. Yet months after Wispr added a meeting notetaker, Granola has answered with dictation.
Voice Apps Are All Converging
Granola and Wispr aren’t alone. Other voice startups including Fireflies, Speechify, and Monologue have all converged into multi-feature apps combining meeting notetaking and dictation. Until earlier this year, the playbook was a focused app that does one thing well — but now, every player is trying to capture more of users’ speech, and every part of their workflow.
With both giants now playing on each other’s turf, the question is which one ships the better all-in-one voice assistant first.
