Toni Storm’s mysterious cassette tapes have fans wondering if she is about to return to AEW, but her actual in-ring return is not happening anytime soon, according to new details reported by Fightful Select.

AEW has begun setting the stage for Storm’s eventual comeback, yet sources within the company say that comeback is not imminent. That does not mean fans will see nothing of her storyline in the meantime: other elements involving Storm could be introduced before she is ready to wrestle again, keeping the mystery alive without rushing the return itself.
Why Toni Storm Has Been Off AEW Television
The report also sheds light on why Storm vanished in the first place. AEW reportedly had major plans for her throughout 2026, but following her match against Marina Shafir at AEW Revolution in March, the company learned she would be unavailable until the end of the year at the earliest. She was subsequently removed from television, leaving fans with the mystery of her backstage attack.
That attack was apparently meant to be a much bigger story. AEW intended to plant clues pointing toward different potential suspects, with a particular person in mind to eventually reveal as the attacker, though the identity was deliberately left open in case creative plans needed to change. The extended absence, then, may yet reshape who that attacker turns out to be.
The Toni Storm Tapes From WrestleDream Explained
The mystery reignited at AEW WrestleDream on October 17, 2026, when cassette tapes were intentionally planted for select media members attending the event. Content creator Astrid Pizarro was among those who received a package containing a cassette labelled Toni Storm Tapes, marked as the first of five, leaving four more unaccounted for.
The first tape, titled Mundanities, featured Renee Paquette narrating recordings supposedly taken from a device Storm secretly carried in her purse, offering an unusual look at her daily life. Intriguingly, the fifth and final cassette was labelled Death, a title that could become important as more recordings surface and the suspect clues multiply.
Despite the renewed attention, sources indicated Storm has not been spotted at many AEW events, if any, during her absence. AEW president Tony Khan addressed her status during the WrestleDream media scrum, confirming that Timeless Toni Storm will eventually return without offering a specific date. For now, the tapes are a way to keep the storyline moving while the return itself waits, and fans should not mistake a tease for a comeback announcement.
