Ghosts Halloween Special Explained: Rebecca Wisocky on Hetty's Reunion With Sister Margaret

CBS’s “Ghosts” delivered its first-ever hour-long Halloween special, “Halloween 6: The Mirror,” and star Rebecca Wisocky is breaking down Hetty Woodstone’s emotional reunion with her long-lost, mustachioed sister Margaret, played by guest star Maria Thayer.

How Margaret Gets Trapped in the Mirror

The one-hour special, which aired October 29 from 9-10 PM ET/PT on CBS and streams on Paramount+, picks up a couple of months after the Season 5 finale cliffhanger. With Sam (Rose McIver) in Australia filming her new movie “Polar Opposites,” Kyle (new series regular Ben Feldman) steps in to help Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) babysit the ghosts. When Jay replaces a broken mirror with one from a flea market, the catch is that Margaret’s ghost is trapped inside it.

Hetty gets pulled into the mirror, and the estranged sisters — who have hated each other for 150 years, each believing the other stole her one great love — are forced to confront the truth. Showrunners Joe Port and Joe Wiseman teased Margaret as “a type of ghost that we have never seen,” and the episode reveals the sisters were never enemies: the artist Julian (Tim Rozon) was the real wedge between them, and Hetty’s failure to listen to her sister doomed them both to loveless lives.

Speaking about the hour, Wisocky said Hetty had lived for 150 years believing Margaret ruined her life, and vice versa. “It takes them this entire hour to realize that if only they had just listened to one another, namely, if Hetty had just been a better sister and listened better, they might not have both been doomed to a loveless, miserable life.” In the end, Margaret returns to the mirror after it is repaired and is sent off to live in Paris — watching the city she always dreamed of from the apartment of Trevor’s living daughter.

Ghosts returns with a second holiday special on December 10, and the show hits its 100th episode when Season 6 returns for weekly episodes in early 2027.
