Cody Rhodes used to be deep in the wrestling internet himself — but the WWE champion says the negativity eventually started messing with how much he enjoyed the product, so he walked away from the forums. Now he’s calling out the “rabbit hole” for what it did to his fandom.

Cody Rhodes on Quitting Wrestling Forums Over Negativity
Speaking on the Double Coverage podcast, Rhodes said discovering wrestling forums was initially a thrill — finding like-minded fans as obsessed with the business as he was. But the constant negativity wore the fun down.
“You get caught in the rabbit hole,” Rhodes said. “I had that same kick when I discovered that there were like-minded wrestling fans online, and I was on all the forums, and then I was like, ‘This is too negative.'”
He added that he walked away because the discourse was affecting how he personally watched wrestling: “This is really affecting my viewing experience, so I’m not going to frequent this anymore.”
“There’s No Wrong Way to Be a Fan” — Cody Rhodes on Online Critics
Rhodes was careful not to dismiss fans with negative opinions, saying he never wants to wave away criticism as a “small percentage” of the audience. And he’s fine with people thinking whatever they want about him.
“If they hate you, they hate you. If they think you’re fat, they think you’re fat. If they think you suck, they think you suck. There’s no wrong way to be a fan,” he said.
His bigger gripe is with X specifically, where he believes conversations feel massive online but don’t reflect the reality he sees in arenas. His message to fans drowning in discourse: go to a live show and see how different the atmosphere is.
