WWE Hall of Famer Jake “The Snake” Roberts has some friendly advice for Tony Khan: loosen the grip on creative. “There’s a lot of differences. Creative number one, no doubt. Tony Khan needs to loosen up the reins a little bit and take some advice. He’s got a good product. He’s got a lot of talent there. I think his talent can be used better. Just my own thoughts. I loved working for Tony Khan,” Roberts said.

Jake Roberts Loved Working for Tony Khan Despite Creative Criticism

The legendary performer was careful to stress that his comments come from a good place. Roberts confirmed his departure from AEW in July 2026, ending a run that began in 2020 when he debuted ahead of Lance Archer’s arrival in the promotion. Over his years with the company, he managed Archer and delivered some of his signature eerie promos.

“They’ll wish you nothing but the best. He’s a sweet guy,” Roberts said of Khan, making clear there is no personal animosity behind the critique. His remarks echo a recurring conversation in wrestling circles about whether AEW’s creative direction maximizes the potential of its talent pool.

Roberts Has Re-Signed With WWE After AEW Exit

Elsewhere in the same interview, Roberts revealed he has re-signed with WWE, the company where he first became a legend in the 1980s. The new deal brings the Hall of Famer back into the fold only months after his AEW departure.

Roberts’ career spans more than five decades, and his move back to WWE adds another chapter to one of wrestling’s most storied legacies — even as his parting advice for Tony Khan continues to fuel debate among fans about AEW’s future direction.
