JioStar, the Indian media giant backed by Reliance Industries, grew revenue from operations 10.1% year-on-year to INR68.1 billion ($710 million) in the July-September quarter, despite a weak advertising market. Profit after tax fell 13.2% to INR11.5 billion ($120 million).

Former India cricket captain Sourav Ganguly hosted the first-ever “Bigg Boss Bangla,” which launched this quarter on streaming service JioHotstar. The reality franchise rolled out in six languages, and all editions together pulled in more than 90 million viewers in their first three weeks — making “Bigg Boss” the biggest entertainment property on the platform.
Why Bigg Boss Matters for JioStar
In a quarter defined by soft ad spending, Bigg Boss emerged as JioStar’s breakout entertainment bet. Bringing Sourav Ganguly on board to host the maiden Bangla edition gave the franchise a marquee name, and the numbers show it worked: 90 million-plus viewers across six language editions in just three weeks is the kind of scale Indian streamers chase.
Revenue Up, Profit Down
The 10.1% revenue growth underscores JioStar’s content muscle even in a tough market. The 13.2% drop in profit after tax reflects the cost of that content push — a tradeoff the company appears willing to make as it fights for dominance in India’s streaming wars.
