BLACKPINK’s Lisa Called “Ungrateful” After Revealing Painful Trainee Days in Korea — Fans Push Back

BLACKPINK’s Lisa is caught in a heated controversy after candidly sharing her experiences as a foreign trainee in Korea — a confession that some social media users are calling ungrateful, while her fans insist her words are being twisted.

What Lisa Said About Her Trainee Days

The uproar began with Lisa’s recent interview on The Standard Knd, a Thailand-based English podcast and media program. In it, she recalled how hard she found the language gap after moving from Thailand to Korea at just 14 years old knowing absolutely no Korean. She said nobody at the company was allowed to speak English to her — she was taught Korean in Korean, despite understanding nothing, and her requests to be taught in English first were refused.

Lisa recalled one particular day when she was on the verge of crying, describing how difficult it was for a young girl to push through such a situation.

Why Fans Say the Clip Is Being Misused

Critics online accused Lisa of being entitled and ungrateful for the opportunities Korea gave her. But her defenders argue the outrage deliberately ignores the very next part of the interview, where Lisa admitted the difficult method was ultimately so effective that she is now more comfortable speaking Korean than English, her second language.

“Lisa is not even complaining — she’s just saying that it was difficult for a while at first,” one viral post argued, urging people to watch the full clip rather than a short, isolated excerpt. Supporters also note she arrived in Korea at 14, having only studied English in Thailand, and that her hard-won fluency is precisely what her training produced.

The clash has become another example of how quickly a cut clip can ignite a full-blown K-pop controversy — and how fast fans mobilize to defend their idols.
