Godzilla Minus Zero Cast Return to Tokyo After Los Angeles Premiere
Kamiki Ryunosuke, who returns as lead character Shikishima Koichi, and Hamabe Minami, who reprises the role of his wife Noriko, had flown back to Japan only two days earlier from the film’s premiere at Los Angeles’ TCL Chinese Theatre. According to reports from the LA premiere on October 28, the packed crowd — including horror legend John Carpenter — erupted into a standing ovation as soon as the end credits began to roll, honoring Yamazaki and his stars.
What to Expect From the Godzilla Minus One Sequel
The sequel is set in 1949, two years after Godzilla sank in Sagami Bay. Postwar Japan is still rebuilding when a regenerated, larger and more ferocious Godzilla resurfaces — and trailers have shown that King Ghidorah is the new threat tearing through Matsumoto City.
Kamiki returns as former kamikaze pilot Koichi Shikishima, who wants to fly again, while Hamabe plays his wife Noriko, whose condition from her earlier exposure to Godzilla draws the family back into danger. The film runs 135 minutes, is the first Japanese production filmed for IMAX, and sits at 95% on Rotten Tomatoes from 41 reviews.
“Godzilla Minus Zero” opens in Japan on November 3 — Godzilla Day, the anniversary of the 1954 original — with GKIDS going wide across North America on November 6. Select IMAX screens in the US, UK and Mexico get it three days early.
