Santino Marella on Why TNA’s Freedom Beats WWE and AEW’s Production

“So TNA is not overproduced. We don’t have 15 writers or we don’t have 15 producers. We have more freedom,” Santino said. “The individuals in the ring have a little more freedom, and when you have freedom — because you hear about back in the golden day of wrestling, they didn’t write their promos for them. They knew their characters.”

He pointed to legends like Roddy Piper, who famously worked without scripted promos during wrestling’s golden era. Marella acknowledged that modern network television demands quality control — “you have to know what’s happening on television basically every second” to protect the company and its sponsors — but insisted that TNA’s creative freedom at the individual level remains its defining edge.
