Saquon Barkley Receives Assurances He Won't Be Dealt, Wants to Help Eagles 'Fix It' After 27-10 Loss

Saquon Barkley says he has received assurances he will not be dealt before the trade deadline — and after the Philadelphia Eagles‘ sixth straight loss, a 27-10 defeat to the Washington Commanders on Sunday night, he wants to help fix what’s gone wrong.

Speaking to reporters after the loss at Northwest Stadium, Barkley made it clear he has no interest in jumping ship. “I would love to be here. I plan on being here,” he said. “Right now, we have a problem we’ve got to fix, and you know, hopefully, I’ll be one of the reasons why we fix it.”

Barkley: “I’m Not One of Those Guys That Jumps Ship”

The 29-year-old running back addressed the trade speculation directly: “I don’t like the way the season’s going, like I’m not one of those guys that’s like, ‘Oh, the season not going, where we going? Like let’s just jump ship.’ That’s not the type of person I am.”

His comments come hours after NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported that the Eagles would not move Barkley before the deadline. Barkley has two years and just over $35 million remaining on his contract with Philadelphia. General manager Howie Roseman has reportedly been surveying the market for draft-pick compensation on other players, but Barkley is not going anywhere.

Eagles’ Sixth Straight Loss Deepens the Spiral

The loss to the one-win Commanders marks Philadelphia’s sixth-straight defeat — the franchise’s first six-game skid since the end of the Andy Reid era. Barkley managed just 13 carries for 30 yards on the night, though he did score a touchdown for the second week in a row. Through five games before Sunday, he had taken on 43 carries for 244 yards and one touchdown.
