The news, reported by Variety as an exclusive, brings together a trio of performers known for balancing comedy and darker material. Pegg, best known to global audiences as Benji Dunn in the Mission: Impossible franchise, headlines the cast. He is joined by Mark Duplass of The Morning Show and the indie horror film Creep, and Haley Joel Osment, whose career spans The Sixth Sense and the recent horror hit Blink Twice.
‘My Phone Died’ filmmakers and producers
The film comes from the filmmaking duo Hannah Leder and Alexandra Kotcheff, who will write, direct and also co-star. Their multi-hyphenate involvement suggests a tightly controlled creative vision for the dark comedy.
On the business side, Ashok Amritraj’s Hyde Park International has acquired all international rights to the film ahead of the American Film Market, signalling strong commercial confidence in the project before cameras even roll.
What to expect from ‘My Phone Died’
Plot details remain under wraps, but the combination of talent is intriguing. Pegg has spent the past two decades moving between blockbuster franchises and sharper, darker comedies — from Shaun of the Dead to his recent work — while Duplass and Osment both have indie-horror credibility. A dark comedy about a Hollywood agent, from filmmakers who also star, points toward something satirical and personal.
With filming set for spring 2027, expect more casting announcements and a first look as production approaches. Given the international rights deal, ‘My Phone Died’ is clearly being positioned for a global release once it is in the can.
