Matthias Jaissle is running out of answers — and Newcastle United fans are running out of patience. The Toon Army stuck with their side from kickoff to the final seconds, but boos echoed around St James’ Park after yet another miserable home performance in a 1-0 defeat to Everton.

Newcastle 1-0 Everton: Hornicek Howler, Ramsey Red Card Sink Magpies

The defeat was Newcastle’s second at the hands of Everton inside a week, following Thursday’s Carabao Cup elimination. This time it was a comedy of errors: a goalkeeping howler from Lukas Hornicek, a red card for substitute Jacob Ramsey, and another blunt, goalless attacking display.

The numbers are damning. No Premier League side has lost more home games in 2026 than Newcastle (7), they have lost 16 of their past 18 league games when conceding first, and they have now failed to keep a clean sheet in 14 straight home league games — the longest such run in the club’s history.

Jaissle Takes Responsibility as Pressure Mounts

“Big frustration, big disappointment,” Jaissle admitted afterwards. “After a performance like that I can understand the reaction from the fans. That’s the reality and I am responsible for that.”

It is the fourth defeat in six Premier League games for the German, who became the Premier League’s second youngest coach in the summer and is just three months into a four-year contract. “It’s not my first time as a manager in this situation,” he added — a line that will do little to calm supporters.

Pundit Jamie Carragher did not sugar-coat it on Sky Sports: “I fear a little for Newcastle. They have a young manager and young players. You are always going to question the manager when the team is not winning. At home, especially, it feels flat and boring.”

Newcastle’s final game before the November international break is away to Fulham on Saturday, before Arsenal (home) and Brighton (away) resume the Premier League later this month. With fans’ patience visibly thinning, Jaissle needs answers — fast.
