By Black Clover Season 2 has unveiled its preview images and official synopsis for Episode 3 (Episode 173 overall), ahead of the episode’s premiere on October 17. The new season kicked off on October 3, 2026, with Crunchyroll streaming it worldwide — and things are about to get a whole lot darker for the Clover Kingdom.

The Gates of the Underworld Open
According to the official synopsis, Episode 3 sees the gates of the underworld finally swing open. The Resistance Army, led by Albert, joins forces with the Magic Knights of the Clover Kingdom — including Makusa and his companions — in a desperate bid to protect the citizens of the Spade Kingdom from low-ranking devils pouring out of the underworld’s first level.
But that’s not the only threat. A giant demon appears in the Clover Kingdom itself, right when the Magic Knight Captains are away, leaving its citizens in mortal danger. The one who steps up to save them is none other than Asta, wielding the power of Anti-Magic after mastering the fearsome Devil Union technique.
Dark Triad’s Devil Power Hits 100%
The synopsis also teases a chilling milestone: the Dark Triad’s devil power finally reaches 100%. After seasons of buildup, this looks like the moment where the story’s biggest villains hit their full strength — and it could not come at a worse time for Asta and his allies.
The opening theme for the season is performed by WANIMA, titled “Kienai Riyuu” (“The Reason That Won’t Disappear”), setting the tone for a high-stakes return to one of anime’s most beloved battle series.
Five Years Later, Black Clover Returns
The new season marks a major comeback. The original 170-episode anime by Studio Pierrot ran from 2017 to 2021, ending just before the manga’s climactic final arc. Fans got the Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King movie in between, which premiered on June 16 and streams on Netflix.
The manga itself had quite a journey — serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2015 to August 2023 before moving to Jump GIGA, it entered its final arc in August 2022 and wrapped up on May 1 after eleven years. It’s available in English on Viz Media’s site, MANGA Plus, and the Shonen Jump app.
For the uninitiated, Black Clover follows Asta and Yuno, two orphans abandoned at a church on the same day. While Yuno is gifted with exceptional magic, Asta is the only one in their world without any — until he receives a rare Grimoire of Anti-Magic that negates and repels his opponents’ spells.
With Episode 3 promising underworld invasions, a master-level Anti-Magic showcase, and the Dark Triad at full power, this Saturday’s premiere is shaping up to be the season’s biggest episode yet. Don’t miss it on Crunchyroll.
