BTS leader RM has become the center of a heated online debate after appearing on this year’s fan-voted “Most Handsome Faces of K-Pop” ranking. While AND2BLE’s Zhang Hao took the top spot, it was RM’s inclusion that set social media alight — and not in a flattering way.

The Mockery
Netizens didn’t hold back once the list started circulating. Posts quoting the ranking account TOP100KPOP went viral with comments questioning how RM made the cut at all, with some claiming they could “easily name 100 male idols who look better” and others joking that “no one takes K-pop seriously” anymore.
The harshest takes singled out RM’s features directly, sparking a pile-on that quickly outgrew the original ranking itself.
ARMY Fights Back
As always, the backlash triggered an equally passionate defense from ARMY, BTS’s famously protective fandom. Supporters pushed back on the mockery, arguing that beauty is subjective — and that RM’s charisma, presence, and leadership can’t be captured by a jawline debate on social media.
Others dismissed the entire ranking as meaningless fan-bait, noting that these yearly lists are designed to drive engagement rather than settle anything. The list itself is produced by a fan account, not any official body, and has a long history of sparking exactly this kind of discourse.
Regardless of where anyone stands on the ranking, RM isn’t exactly losing sleep — he’s the leader of the biggest group in the world. A spot on a fan poll, mocked or not, changes nothing about that.
