Chiefs Rule Out Rashee Rice For Chargers Clash As Hamstring Injury Sidelines Star WR

The Kansas City Chiefs will be without one of their top playmakers this Sunday, as wide receiver Rashee Rice has been officially ruled out of the Week 6 clash against the Los Angeles Chargers due to a hamstring injury.

Head coach Andy Reid confirmed the news on Friday following the team’s final practice of the week. Rice, who picked up the injury in the Chiefs’ Week 4 win over the Las Vegas Raiders, did not practice at all this week despite the team coming off its bye. This will be the first game the young receiver misses this season.

No Injured Reserve Stint — A Quick Return Expected

There is good news for Chiefs fans: the team has no plans to place Rice on injured reserve, which would have sidelined him for at least four games. Reid suggested the absence could be short, noting that Rice is “out there wanting to jump in on everything” and calling him “a pretty fast healer.” Through four games, Rice has hauled in 13 catches for 190 yards and a touchdown.

Thin Receiver Room Gets Thinner

Rice’s absence piles onto a growing injury crisis at wide receiver. Tyquan Thornton, who suffered a dislocated ankle against the Raiders, has already been placed on IR and could miss months. That leaves Patrick Mahomes leaning on Travis Kelce, Xavier Worthy, Jalen Royals, and recently-signed Justin Watson against a winless Chargers side.

Left tackle Josh Simmons will also miss the game with a back injury, though he returned to practice this week — an encouraging sign for his comeback.
