Samoa Joe has high praise for the current generation of pro wrestlers. In an interview with Shak Wrestling, Joe argued that today’s stars are significantly more technical in the ring than the generation he came up with.

‘A Lot Higher Than It’s Been’
Asked what the current generation does better than his own, Joe pointed to adaptability and coordination, saying both are far better than they have been in years. He sees today’s wrestlers bringing a wider skill set into the ring, a trend he believes mirrors what has happened in lighter weight classes in MMA.
“I think adaptability and coordination are way better than they’ve probably been in years. I think that you get a lot of people who have maybe more of a natural aptitude, but maybe less physical potential,” Joe said. “I think just, you know, the technicality probably is a lot higher than it’s been.”
The Evolution of the Heavyweight Era
Joe explained that wrestling’s past was dominated by a more heavyweight style, where that level of proficiency simply was not common. Modern wrestlers, by contrast, blend athletic coordination with technical precision, producing closer and more competitive matchups across the card. For a veteran of Joe’s caliber to make that call publicly is a major vote of confidence in the new wave of talent rising through promotions like AEW and beyond.
In the same interview, Joe also spoke about Anthony Bowens’ evolution since joining The Opps.
