Ted Lasso Season 5 & 6 Update: Jason Sudeikis Says He "Would Like To" Continue — But No Writers' Room Yet

Never count Ted Lasso out. After all, co-creator Jason Sudeikis once thought the series would wrap with Season 3 — then came Season 4. Now, with the Season 4 finale having aired earlier this month, the actor has opened up about whether the Richmond faithful should expect Seasons 5 and 6.

“I Would Like To” — But Nothing Is Decided

Appearing on the Talk Easy with Sam Fragoso podcast, Sudeikis said he is open to more Ted Lasso, but stressed that no decision has been made. “Yeah, I just don’t know,” he admitted, insisting he was not being coy “intentionally.” He added that production has not even started a writers’ room: “We haven’t started a writers’ room or anything like that.”

The actor acknowledged the scale of what another season would demand — “it takes a village,” he said — but offered one encouraging note: he would “assume” Apple would be open to continuing the show if the main cast wanted to return.

How Ted Lasso Carried Sudeikis

The conversation also turned deeply personal. Sudeikis credited the show with pulling him through one of the darkest stretches of his life, saying it saved him from “some form of self-harm. Flat out.” He described the feeling as something he had not experienced since “the confusing teenage years,” and said he carried shame over those thoughts — “How dare you have those kinds of thoughts?”

As a teenager, he channeled difficult emotions through drumming and dancing. Years later, Ted Lasso served a similar purpose: “To a certain degree, it helped and it carried me, as sometimes the work has done in the past.”

For now, Richmond waits. Sudeikis once had a three-season plan — and the show has already outlasted it once.
