Artist Company, the entertainment agency co-founded by actors Lee Jung Jae and Jung Woo Sung, is facing renewed scrutiny after filing a criminal complaint over alleged financial misconduct — just weeks after Jung Woo Sung unexpectedly stepped down from the company’s board. The timing has only added to the intrigue, though no confirmed connection between the two events has been established.

On October 23, Korean media outlets reported that Artist Company had filed a criminal complaint against five individuals, including a former executive, over suspected breach of trust involving more than ₩600 million KRW (about $453,000 USD).
Artist Company Files Criminal Complaint Over Alleged ₩682 Million Misconduct
According to a regulatory filing with South Korea’s Financial Supervisory Service, the company submitted the complaint to Seoul’s Gangnam Police Station on October 22. The alleged misconduct was uncovered through an investigation conducted with the assistance of an external law firm. Artist Company estimated the amount involved at approximately ₩682 million KRW (about $515,000 USD), equivalent to around 1.49% of its total equity as of the end of 2025.
The company had initially disclosed suspected misconduct involving a former unregistered executive on September 17. Following further internal audits and legal consultations, it proceeded to file the criminal complaint against five individuals. However, the allegations remain under investigation, and neither the individuals’ legal responsibility nor the final amount of any financial losses has been established.
Jung Woo Sung’s Sudden Board Resignation Adds to the Intrigue
The legal development has drawn additional attention because it comes just weeks after Jung Woo Sung unexpectedly stepped down as an internal director at Artist Company. On October 2, the actor resigned from the company’s board approximately six months before his term was scheduled to expire. No specific reason for his early departure was publicly disclosed.
His resignation did not mark a complete departure from Artist Company. Jung Woo Sung reportedly retains a 10.99% ownership stake and remains affiliated with the agency as an actor. Lee Jung Jae remains the company’s largest shareholder, holding approximately 27.10% of its shares.
Founded in 2016 by Lee Jung Jae and Jung Woo Sung, Artist Company has grown into a prominent agency representing well-known actors including Yum Jung Ah, Lim Ji Yeon and Kim Hye Yoon. There is no confirmed connection between Jung Woo Sung’s resignation and the suspected financial misconduct, and neither actor has been accused of involvement. Artist Company stated it would make further disclosures if additional suspected losses or relevant findings emerge as the investigation progresses.
