'South Park' Parodies 'GTA VI' Hype With Dog Poop Gameplay Ahead of November 19 Launch

As gamers count down to the release of Grand Theft Auto VI next month, South Park has once again taken aim at the blockbuster, this time armed with dog poop. The South Park GTA VI parody aired on Wednesday’s episode of the Comedy Central show, currently rebranded as South America for Season 29, and it mocked the hype around Rockstar’s most anticipated game in over a decade.

In the episode, the gang visits the local cattle ranch and gets a sneak peek at the video game, featuring a new gameplay sequence in which Jason fights an NPC on Vice Beach with a bag of dog poop. An insider in the scene hypes up the graphics and world-building, breathlessly explaining that players can pick up dog poop, throw it at people, and even attack with it if the other person fights back.

The kids are suitably amazed, with Cartman declaring the game looks incredible, in his own unprintable way. The joke lands because it punctures the years of breathless hype around GTA VI’s graphical fidelity: South Park suggests that no matter how next-level the visuals get, players will still find the silliest possible way to cause chaos.

South Park GTA VI Parody: A Joke With a Second Target

Wednesday’s episode, titled “Guinea Pig on a Stick,” arrives ahead of GTA VI’s highly anticipated November 19 release from Rockstar Games, the first GTA installment since 2013. As the show refers to the game’s release as the “big change” coming in November, the bit doubles as creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone’s satirical reminder of the November 3 midterm elections, layering political commentary under the gaming joke.

South Park has a long history of roasting gaming culture, and this latest jab fits the show’s Season 29 run of timely targets. With GTA VI’s launch now just weeks away, the parody also serves as a reminder of just how enormous the game’s cultural footprint has become: it is now big enough for South Park to treat its release month as a political punchline.
