Kieran Culkin To Lead Voice Cast Of Walt Disney Animated Movie ‘Clay’

Published

on

Walt Disney Animation Studios has a new original film in the works, Clay, which will head to theaters in 2028 with Kieran Culkin leading the voice cast.

The project was announced at Disney’s Entertainment Showcase at D23 on Friday night. Oscar and Emmy winner Culkin will voice the protagonist, Flip, who might be a little in over his head, said Walt Disney Animation chief Jared Bush.

“We have a rich history of stories that celebrate inspiring mentors and their aspirational students. So, with that in mind, we asked ourselves one very important question: What if the next Disney mentor stunk?” he explained. “And he does, and his name is Flip, and he has chosen to be his village’s next great mentor and is assigned his first student — a literal ball of clay born that very moment, named Mushi. So, like all inspiring mentors, Flip runs away in the middle of the night, only to discover that Mushi is inescapable and pure chaos, and now out in the wild, Flip must keep Mushi alive on a journey through a fantastical forest.”

The pic will release November 2028.

Culkin is probably best known for his Emmy-winning role as Roman Roy on HBO’s Succession. He won an Oscar for A Real Pain.

‘Frozen 3’ First Look Teases Anna’s Wedding, New Villain & More

Published

on

The filled Honda Center tonight got a look at Frozen 3 and let’s just say, there is quite a lot in store.

First of all, are those wedding bells, we hear? Indeed, they are! Kristen Bell confirmed at Disney’s Entertainment Showcase Friday night that Anna will be marrying her “mountain man” Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) in the upcoming threequel, of course with her sister by her side.

Speaking of, Idina Menzel was also on hand to tease the world of Frozen has gotten “a little bit more mysterious” since audiences were last in Arendelle. In fact, the story will quickly take these characters very far from their home to face another threat.

Footage shown in the room featured Anna and Kristoff, on their wedding night, coming upon Elsa out on the dock studying a mysterious stone that appears to open a portal to a very snowy dimension, which Menzel called “a frozen land more wild and dangerous than anything Elsa has ever created.”

When they step through what appears to be some sort of portal, they’re quickly confronted by a new character…who clearly isn’t looking to make nice. Audiences in the room at the Honda Center didn’t get a glimpse at the new character’s face, but it appears to be a woman with short, black hair and a wicked cape.

The leading ladies debuted some new music from the film. And, it wouldn’t be Frozen without Olaf. Josh Gad joined Bell and Menzel on stage to sing about the snowman’s one true love, Samantha.

Two years ago at D23 Disney showed off some concept art for the threequel in the $2.76 billion grossing, 2x Oscar winning franchise.

Filmmaker Jennifer Lee said back then, “there were a lot of questions coming out of Frozen 2…it will take two films to answer them.”

The art was of Elsa and Anna separately on horses heading toward a white palace in a summery horizon. Olaf was on the back of Anna’s horse. Specifically, Elsa was riding the water spirit Nokk. A mysterious horned shadow figure appeared in the river behind them. The implication was that the duo were journeying behind Arendelle and the Enchanted Forest to a new mystical realm, heading toward a floating palace which many have interpreted as a place where we’ll learn more about Elsa’s powers.

Frozen 3 comes out on Nov. 24, 2027.

‘Zootopia 3’ In The Works At Disney

Published

on

Following the massive success of the sequel, Disney is moving forward with Zootopia 3. The news of the next film was revealed at Disney’s D23 event in Anaheim, with Ke Huy Quan joining Ginnifer Goodwin onstage to announce new film.

Last year’s Zootopia 2 became the highest-grossing Hollywood animated movie of all time with $1.8 billion at the global box office.

The franchise started with the original 2016 movie, which introduced fans to rabbit police officer Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and con artist fox Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman). The two started off as enemies as Judy joined the Zootopia Police Department, but then put aside their differences to solve a mystery in the animal city. The first movie was a hit at the box office, crossed $1 billion globally and spawned a spinoff TV series called Zootopia+ on Disney+.

Zootopia 2 cast included the podcasting beaver Nibbles Maplestick (Fortune Feimster), Pawbert Lynxley (Andy Samberg), Milton Lynxley (David Strathairn), Cattrick Lynxley (Macaulay Culkin), Kitt Lynxley (Brenda Song), Dr. Fuzzby (Quinta Brunson), Robert Furwin (Robert Irwin) and Brian Winddancer (Patrick Warburton) amongst others.

Directed by Jared Bush and Byron Howard, the sequel made box office history on its opening weekend, becoming the fourth-biggest global opening ever at the time and the largest global launch of all time for an animated film. It was also nominated for best animated feature at the Academy Awards.

Ryan Gosling Shows Off First Footage From ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’

Published

on

Star Wars: Starfighter touched down at D23 on Friday night, as Disney showed off first footage from the film during its Entertainment Showcase.

Ryan Gosling and newcomer Flynn Gray lead the latest Star Wars entry, a stand-alone movie that is set after the events of 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Director Shawn Levy appeared at the event, telling the room of fans that the project “embodies themes of hope and family and adventure” that the Star Wars franchise is known for, but “in a timeline never explored.” He then trolled Gosling with a clip from The Mickey Mouse Club (where Gosling got his start), before bringing out his star, declaring it was the most pivotal role of his career.

Gosling then appeared in a Mickey jacket, declaring, “I owe a lot to Disney… and I’m now here 30 years later and I’m back and it’s changing my life again.” He then switched jackets to feature one with the logo of his character Kade, who he described as “a guy from the wrong side of the galaxy whose fate is intertwined with the fastest starfighter ever built.” Then he teased to the audience, “Can we show you something?” and cut to a glimpse of the movie.

In the clip, Gray is shown uncovering a ship as Gosling stumbles him, saying, “Didn’t I tell you not to touch anything?” He says the ship is the fastest starfighter ever built and when Gray’s character says he’s never heard of it, Gosling says “There’s a reason for that.” The interaction was followed by some action-packed scenes of ships sailing across the sea and classic Star Wars moments in space.

Levy directed the project, which features a star-studded supporting cast of Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings and Amy Adams. Starfighter is set to hit theaters on May 28, 2027, after it wrapped filming at the end of 2025.

“The reality is that this script is just so good. It has such a great story with great and original characters,” Gosling told the audience when the film was first announced at Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo. “It’s filled with so much heart and adventure, and there just really is not a more perfect filmmaker for this particular story than Shawn.”

Starfighter is also the first of two high-profile collaborations coming from Gosling and Levy, as Marvel revealed during its Comic-Con presentation last month that the Barbie star would play supernatural horror hero Ghost Rider, in a new big-screen incarnation of the character. Levy will also direct the Ghost Rider film, which is currently set for a 2028 release.
