Disney Publishing announced Disney Cursed Love, a new romantasy initiative inspired by Disney’s classic love stories, at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event 2026 on August 14.

The initiative will launch with The Curse of a Forsaken Heart, a new webtoon by New York Times bestselling author Emily McIntire and artist Samairu. The series will debut on WEBTOON before expanding into print formats in 2027.

The story of the webtoon reads:

Belle and the Beast (in its human form) get sucked into a magical world through an enchanted stained-glass window. Once trapped, they quickly realize the fate of the realm is tied to the kingdom’s princess, Emberlynne: a woman who didn’t yield to the marriage proposal of an evil sorcerer. As a result of her refusal, the entire kingdom is cursed to live without love and anyone who steps foot inside it is also cursed. Belle and the Beast will have to not only find their way back to their own love, but also help the princess find hers in order to lift the curse from the kingdom and return home.

Disney also announced seven additional titles that will join more than 20 existing Disney and Marvel series on WEBTOON, including Star Wars: Visions The Followers of Ankok, Star Wars: Visions The Ronin and the Droid, Disney Villains Hades, Disney Villains Maleficent, Disney Villains Ursula, Gravity Falls: Lost Legends, and The Ultimates. Release dates for the new titles have not yet been announced.

WEBTOON and Disney announced in August 2025 a multi-year collaboration to adapt and distribute around 100 comics from Disney, Marvel, 20th Century Studios, and Star Wars in WEBTOON’s mobile vertical-scroll format. The collaboration launched with a dedicated section on the English-language WEBTOON app, offering both reformatted comics and brand-new original webcomic series based on Disney’s most popular properties.

The two companies then announced in September 2025 they have signed a non-binding term sheet to develop a new digital comics platform. The service will include more than 35,000 comics from across Disney’s portfolio, including Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and 20th Century Studios, along with WEBTOON Original titles. The platform will feature both vertical-scroll and traditional formats and WEBTOON Entertainment will build and operate the platform. The platform will also expand on Marvel Unlimited, with current subscribers gaining access to the new catalog.

Licensing and dubbing studio SkySet Entertainment announced on Saturday it will stream the Go Forward. (Massugu ni Ikō) television anime and its sequel series Massugu ni Ikō: Melon Pan-hen on August 18, which marks the 23rd anniversary since the anime first debuted on August 18, 2003.

The stream will include both the Japanese audio with English subtitles and an English dub. SkySet Entertainment will stream the anime on its website in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Australia.

The Anime NYC convention will host a screening for the anime’s English dub on August 22.

SkySet Entertainment describes the anime’s story:

Adapted from the manga originally released by Kira in 1991, Go Forward. centers around Mametaro, an adventurous mixed-breed dog. He loves his owner, Ikuko, and his girlfriend, Hanako, more than anything! However, he just can’t bring himself to like Ikuko’s boyfriend, Akiyoshi, and often feels the need to protect her from him. Go Forward. is a spirited look at the everyday adventures of an ordinary dog, one you might find anywhere!

Kira launched the Massugu ni Ikō manga in Shueisha‘s The Margaret magazine in 1991. Since 2002, the manga has serialized in Shueisha‘s Chorus magazine, where Kira publishes new chapters in an irregular serialization. Shueisha has published 26 compiled book volumes for the manga.

The television anime adaptation premiered in 2003 and aired for four episodes. The five-episode Massugu ni Ikō: Melon Pan-hen sequel aired in 2004.

Kira launched a “successor” manga titled OH MY DOG! Massugu ni Ikō ~Kiki no Baai~ in Shueisha‘s office YOU magazine in January 2021. Shueisha shipped the compiled book volume in June 2021.

Episode 5 – The Elusive Samurai Season 2

Published

on

elusive-samurai-s2-ep-5-review.png

As an educator, one of the fundamental truths of human nature that I try very hard to help my students understand is that we often will never have better opportunities to learn and grow than when we experience failure. It’s a hard pill for kids to swallow, especially when our society so often treats failure as a mark of shame and defeat to be avoided at all costs. One of the most difficult things about teaching in the year 2026 is how paralyzed by anxiety students can become in the face of a single test or challenging task. It goes against all of our instincts to intentionally seek out failure, and that has only become truer in the age of instant gratification and perpetual custom-curated content floods.

The point remains as true for the children of 14th-century Japan as anywhere else. In “The Unyielding,” Tokiyuki experiences a real failure. Despite the small, moment-to-moment victories that his troops were achieving on the battlefield, he failed to see the bigger picture of Shōkan and his other enemy generals’ plans. Is it satisfying to see the good guys take down Koyohara and that damned mikoshi? Absolutely it is, but that one moment of victory means little when the rest of the troops are being outmaneuvered and ambushed in the other corners of the battlefield.

Tokiyuki may be great at banding together a gang of kids to defend the occasional village, but he’s too young and inexperienced to achieve true greatness in the realm of “grand” warfare. I can relate. If you give me a couple of hours to kill and a copy of the latest Dynasty Warriors game, I will be hack-and-slashing to my heart’s content. However, God help the poor digital souls who find themselves in my charge in a grand strategy game like Europa Universalis or Nobunaga’s Ambition. That kind of complexly arranged multi-tier strategy is usually too much for my brain to process for longer than a handful of turns, so my armies always end up getting whittled away into splinters by the computer-controlled rival kingdoms that know how to properly organize their empires.

It’s a good lesson for our young Lord to learn, and it’s really the only emotional hook that is keeping me invested in this larger story. If we were able to experience this failed act of Tokiyuki’s rebellion cycle in a more filmic single sitting, I might find this section of the story to be more compelling. Having to break it apart across an entire month of episodes has watered down the impact of the arc since it feels like an awful lot of time and effort was spent accomplishing very little in the end. That’s simply the nature of warfare, to be sure, and this goes double for stories based on real-world battles with outcomes decided centuries ago. I don’t think The Elusive Samurai failed in its storytelling by forcing its young hero to make the best of a doomed situation, but I can tell you that I’m glad to finally be moving on to the next order of business.
