Bill Maher Warns Gavin Newsom He’s Starting to Sound ‘Exactly’ Like Trump
Bill Maher grilled Governor Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.) over his defamation suit against Fox News, warning the politician that he was starting to sound more and more like Donald Trump.
The California governor stopped by “Real Time With Bill Maher” on Friday, where he was asked to explain how his suit against Fox News differed from Trump’s various defamation lawsuits against legacy media.
“Many people would say that you are imitating him,” Maher noted after the governor called out the president’s “sewer” rhetoric. “Among all the people who may — or may not — be running, you’re the one who kind of imitates his style with the trolling. You’re suing Fox now, I understand it.”
In response, Newsom noted, “We’re going into discovery. Fox better look to sell or apologize for defamation.”
At this comment, Maher pushed back, calling out Newsom for sounding “exactly” like Trump in that moment.
“Well, don’t defame. Don’t lie,” Newsom doubled down, which Maher reiterated sounded an awful lot like Trump’s stance against the press.
“Here’s the point, I’m trying to put a mirror up to Donald Trump, and I think it’s important — with a sense of humor, as well,” Newsom said. “The deviation of normalcy is off the chart. This is a guy cosplaying as the pope. Dressing up as Jesus. Putting his face on Mount Rushmore. None of this is normal.”
Newsom then called out Fox for slamming his social media behavior — which was meant to emulate Trump’s own posts — as “unbecoming.”
“No situational awareness that their dear leader has been doing this for years and years and years,” he continued. “He’s a manchild. And so, I think it’s important to call that out … But, again, we’re not trying to dehumanize, we’re just trying to reflect that reality and express the absurdity.”
Newsom’s defense of his defamation suit against Fox News and host Jesse Watters came a day after he scored a small legal victory in the case, as a Delaware judge ruled that his $787 million lawsuit can move forward.
As we previously reported, Judge Sean P. Lugg found it “reasonably conceivable” that Fox intentionally pushed false claims about Newsom when accusing him of lying about a phone call with Donald Trump during protests in Los Angeles.
“We respectfully disagree with the court’s decision and plan to vigorously defend against this frivolous lawsuit as it’s nothing more than a blatant attempt to silence free speech and weaken the First Amendment,” Fox News Media said in a statement to TheWrap on Thursday.
Fox filed to dismiss the lawsuit last August, calling the governor’s suit a political stunt.
“If Fox News wants to lie to the American people on Donald Trump’s behalf, it should face consequences — just like it did in the Dominion case,” Newsom said after he first filed the suit last year. “I believe the American people should be able to trust the information they receive from a major news outlet. Until Fox is willing to be truthful, I will keep fighting against their propaganda machine.”

Hunter Biden Calls Trump the ‘Singular Existential Threat’ to Planet Earth
Hunter Biden doesn’t have plans of running for office himself, but he still has some strong opinions when it comes to the presidency. In fact, President Joe Biden’s son just called President Donald Trump “the singular existential threat” to planet Earth.
During his wide-ranging interview with BBC Newsnight’s Paddy O’Connell on Friday, the 56-year-old artist opened up about receiving a pardon from his father during his last weeks in office back in December 2024 — and how Trump’s behavior may have impacted the decision.
“I am the most privileged person, as it relates to that, that there could possibly be. I was one of one, and I am eternally grateful for it,” Hunter shared. “I am eternally grateful for it because I think that Donald Trump has proven to be exactly who my dad thought he was going to be, as it relates to the revenge and retribution that he would seek on his political enemies.”
“Was it good for our Constitution? Was it good for the American people? Was it good for my dad’s legacy? No, on all counts,” he further admitted.
President Biden pardoned his son just weeks ahead of his sentencing on tax evasion and federal gun charges. At the time, Trump called the act “an abuse and miscarriage of justice.” A year and half later, Hunter remains equally unimpressed by his father’s successor (who was also, notably, his predecessor).
“I’m not going to stop talking about Donald Trump,” he concluded. “Donald Trump is the singular existential threat to this globe. Donald Trump is, literally, a greater threat than we have faced in any of our lifetimes.”
Elsewhere in his interview, Hunter fought tears while sharing a painful update on his father’s prostate cancer metastasizing to his bones: “My dad is, to this day, remains the center of our family. Not just because of who he is as the the public person, but completely because of who he is to each one of us. It’s really, really hard and it’s really sad to watch.”

‘One Night Only’ Director Understands “Sex Purge” Comparisons
While One Night Only is intended as a romantic-comedy, there are some obvious dystopian undertones that audiences can’t ignore.
Director Will Gluck recently addressed online comparisons between the Purge franchise and his new Universal rom-com, which is now in theaters, about two New Yorkers (Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner) who meet on the one night a year premarital sex is legal.
“I am very aware of the online discourse about this world and this movie being the ‘sex Purge,’ and rightfully so,” he told SlashFilm. “But I don’t want this movie to be about that. And I know I get some blowback going, ‘How could you make a movie about this not being about that?’ Because I love exploring characters and situations.
Gluck added, “Whenever us humans get put in situations, no matter how or why the situation happens, we still have to be humans and get through the day. And that’s what interests me. So we didn’t want it to overwhelm. We wanted to explain it. We didn’t want to take a side. We wanted to show both sides, but we wanted it to be about these two people going through this crazy night.”
With five movies and a TV series expanding on the universe since The Purge premiered in 2013, the Blumhouse franchise is set in an alternate reality where all crime, including murder, is legal one night a year for 12 hours.

In a similarly dystopian fascist universe, albeit with a much lighter mood, One Night Only follows recently dumped pizzeria owner Owen (Turner) and singer Allie (Barbaro) meet on the one night of the year premarital sex is legal under the United States’ “chastity mandate.”

Perez Hilton in Serious but Stable Condition After Self-Harm Livestream
Perez Hilton’s condition remains “serious but stable” as of Saturday afternoon, four days after he was hospitalized following an apparent incident of self-harm that was livestreamed on TikTok.
“There are many false and inaccurate reports circulating in the media regarding Perez and the circumstances surrounding this situation,” his team shared in a weekend update. “We want to confirm that Perez remains hospitalized under Florida’s Baker Act. His communication has been extremely limited and confined to immediate family, medical providers and others directly involved in his care.”
“He has not communicated with the media or issued any public statements. The only statements regarding Perez that should be considered credible and authorized are those published directly on PerezHilton.com,” they continued. “Perez’s condition remains serious but stable. He experienced significant blood loss and sustained additional injuries that will require surgery in the coming days. His treatment and recovery will be a long process. We are grateful that Perez was able to spend time with his mother and sister yesterday. As our family remains focused on Perez’s treatment and recovery, we also need the space and privacy to care for everyone affected by this situation.”
On Thursday, Hilton’s loved ones revealed that his three children were removed from their Miami home on Tuesday “just minutes” before he began seemingly cutting himself with a knife on TikTok Live. The celebrity gossip blogger has since been able to communicate with his family, and they continue to ask for privacy.
“There is absolutely no reason for members of the media or the public to remain outside the family’s home. We again respectfully ask members of the media to leave the home and surrounding area, stop following family members and cease photographing Perez’s children. We also ask photo agencies not to purchase, publish or distribute any photographs of the children that may have been taken,” their new statement added. “For more than a decade, PerezHilton.com has maintained a ‘no kids policy,’ meaning the site does not publish photographs of children unless they are attending a public event or their family has chosen to make those photographs public on social media.”
“Perez’s children remain safe and are being cared for by immediate family,” they concluded. “Please allow them and the rest of the family the peace and privacy they desperately need during this incredibly difficult time. Thank you for your continued support, compassion and understanding.”
