Maine Democratic Party Rips Platner for Trying to Influence Replacement Process
The Maine Democratic Party reiterated its call for Graham Platner to drop out of the Senate race Tuesday, sharing the embattled politician will have “no role” in determining his successor.
Maine Democratic Party Executive Director Devon Murphy-Anderson released a video update on X Tuesday, in which she addressed the status of the Maine Senate race following newfound rape allegations against Platner. In her message, Murphy-Anderson assured voters that the Maine Democratic Party was “working around the clock to develop a process to replace our U.S. Senate nominee that is open, inclusive, transparent and fair.”
She added: “The integrity of this process is just as important as the outcome, and we are committed to ensuring that Democrats across our state can have confidence in both.”
As Murphy-Anderson went on, she accused Platner’s team of “repeatedly” reaching out to them “in an attempt to put their thumb on the scale” to influence what the process looks like.
“We have repeatedly reiterated to Graham Platner’s team that they have no role in determining our next Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate, nor in determining what this process looks like,” she noted. “We have also reiterated that Graham Platner must drop out of this race so that Democrats in Maine can focus on defeating Susan Collins this November.”
Before signing off her statement, Murphy-Anderson stated that the Maine Democratic Party would make the succession process public “as soon as Graham Platner formally withdraws from this race.”
You can watch her full video statement below. A representative for Platner did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.
Though, a campaign official did tell NBC News Tuesday, “The Platner campaign has reached out to the party to try and understand what this process would look like. At no point has the campaign tried to ‘put its finger on the scale.’ Over 150,000 Mainers voted for this movement, and over 15,000 Mainers volunteered their time and energy to it. While Graham wouldn’t want to be a part of the process, he would want to make sure the voters and volunteers make this decision — not the political establishment.”
Calls for Platner to withdraw from the race have mounted in the wake of Politico’s bombshell report, in which the Senate hopeful’s ex Jenny Racicot accused him of sexual assault. The controversy followed several other scandals that have already plagued his campaign, including allegations of extramarital sexting, a Nazi tattoo, physical misconduct and offensive remarks.
Yet, the Politico report appeared to be the breaking point for Platner’s biggest supporters, as Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.), Senator Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.), the “Pod Save America” hosts and more all called for him to exit the senate race this week.
The Maine Democratic Party issued their own statement Monday, in which they called on Platner to exit the race and voiced support for his alleged victims.
While Platner has said that he is “taking the time to reflect on the best path forward for the state that I love,” he’s yet to formally exit the race. He did, however, deny Racicot’s claims as “troubling, serious and false.”

Robert Pattinson Compares ‘The Odyssey’ Role To Jacob In ‘Twilight’
As Robert Pattinson has learned, you either die an Edward, or you live long enough to see yourself become the Jacob.
While discussing his character Antinous in The Odyssey, the actor compared the role in the Christopher Nolan-helmed movie to Taylor Lautner’s Jacob in the Twilight movie franchise, nearly 15 years after Pattinson last played Edward Cullen.
“I think they will be rooting for him,” he told MTV UK. “I keep comparing it—it’s kind of like Jacob in Twilight,”
Pattinson added, “What The Odyssey is about — Penelope just can’t make her mind up between the two guys and I’m just trying to like help her make a decision. It’s like, ‘It’s fine. He’s dead, get over it.’”
An adaptation of one of the first stories in human history, The Odyssey follows Odysseus (Matt Damon) through the incredible trials and mythical encounters he faces on his decade-long journey home to wife Penelope (Anne Hathaway) and son Telemachus (Tom Holland) after the Trojan War.
Pattinson stars as Antinous, a suitor vying for Penelope’s hand in marriage and Odysseus’ throne overseeing the kingdom of Ithaca.
The film also stars Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, Jesse Garcia, Will Yun Lee, Rafi Gavron, Shiloh Fernandez, Mia Goth and more.
In 2008, Pattinson starred in his breakout role as Edward Cullen in Twilight, based on the books by Stephenie Meyer. The sparkly vampire competed with werewolf Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner) for the affection of Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) in the The Twilight Saga franchise, which included New Moon (2009), Eclipse (2010), Breaking Dawn — Part 1 (2011) and Breaking Dawn — Part 2 (2012).

Wes Anderson Was Trapped in Academy Museum Elevator, Rescued by LAFD
After participating in a celebration of the 30th anniversary of Bottle Rock on Monday, Wes Anderson found himself trapped in an elevator at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures.
The director was trapped in the elevator for roughly 30 minutes, alongside Luke Wilson producer James L. Brooks, before the Los Angeles Fire Department came to their aid.
Save Your Cinema claimed the elevator was “a secret passageway/elevator so celebrities can enter and exit without” at the Academy Museum, though The Hollywood Reporter was not able to confirm if Anderson had taken an alternative entrance not made available to the public.
Carolyn Dunn, a production specialist for 20th Century Fox, did, however, share a video of Anderson and Brooks exiting the elevator on Instagram. In the clip, Anderson can be heard asking the LAFD what went wrong, to which one official responded, “Probably had too much weight in there.”
“Okay, thank you very much,” Anderson replied.
THR has reached out to the Academy Museum and the LAFD for comment, but did not hear back by the time of publication.
Bottle Rocket marked the Oscar winner’s feature directorial debut. It was released in 1996, and starred Luke and Owen Wilson, with the latter actor also being present for Monday night’s event; Ned Dowdand Shea Fowler also starred. Cynthia Hargrave and Polly Platt served as producers, while Anderson and Owen penned the script.
Anderon’s most recent feature, The Phoenician Scheme, starred Benicio Del Toro, Mia Threapleton, Michael Cera, Jeffrey Wright, Tom Hanks and Scarlett Johansson, and came out in 2025.

Oregon AG to Ask Court to Pause Paramount-Warner Bros. Deal Amid Records Dispute
Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield confirmed Tuesday that he is taking steps to slow Paramount Skydance’s Warner Bros. Discovery merger by seeking a court order requiring the company to turn over records tied to the state’s lobbying investigation and delaying the deal’s closing for 60 days.
“We’re not going to let Paramount Skydance play hide the ball so they can rush through their massive merger,” Rayfield said in a statement to media Tuesday evening. “Oregonians have a real stake in this deal – in our film industry, in our economy, in the choices they’ll have as consumers. Paramount had every opportunity to hand over records and answer a few basic questions. Instead, it is trying to run out the clock and evade scrutiny. We’re asking the court to make sure Oregonians get the answers they’re owed before this deal closes, not after.”
Per Rayfield’s office, Paramount has allegedly dodged and delayed their records request while trying to close its $110 billion deal with Warner Bros. Discovery. A representative for Paramount did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.
Though, a spokesperson did tell Reuters that the information in-question “has nothing to do with whether this transaction complies with Oregon’s antitrust laws and is not a legitimate basis to delay a plainly lawful, pro-competitive transaction.”
They explained that the ODOJ has been “investigating the proposed merger since it was announced in February,” noting that this work included a June records request, in which they asked for “documents about the company’s lobbying of federal officials in support of the deal, its role in a U.S. Department of Justice (USDOJ) statement approving the merger and an internal effort the company calls ‘Project Warrior.’”
After claiming that Paramount had not complied with their request, the ODOJ stated that the company allegedly dragged its feet in communicating with them and “ultimately sent objections on the day its documents were due.”
“Paramount has told Oregon it does not intend to close the deal before July 16 but has not agreed to hold off any longer while the state’s investigation continues,” the ODOJ further noted in its update. “The state’s request asks the court to require Paramount to fully comply within three days of an order, and to bar the company from closing its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery for 60 days from the date it substantially complies.”
The ODOJ confirmed that they will present the motion in person at in Multnomah County Court on Wednesday afternoon.
