Trump Booed During World Cup Final Telecast

The crowd at today’s World Cup Final cheered wildly for Jennifer Hudson’s otherworldly rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner.” But when Fox cut from Hudson to a shot of President Donald Trump in his box, the cheers turned to boos.

Fox stayed with the shot of Trump for just a few seconds before cutting to an aerial shot during which the boos can still be heard.

After the game was over, the president was again booed as he walked onto the field to present the teams with their medals. The change in tone could be heard in back of the music and narration on the broadcast.

But in ambient video and audio of the same moment posted by Sports Illustrated, the crowd’s displeasure is more pronounced.

It’s not the first time Trump has been booed at a sporting event. He was booed during Game 3 of last month’s NBA Finals. He also got a smattering of boos when he attended the Super Bowl in 2025.

Indie Film Box Office: ‘Obsession’, ‘The Invite’ & ‘Young Washington’

Indies The Invite (A24, $15 million cume), Young Washington (Angel Studios, $41 million cume) and Obsession (Focus Features, $258 million cume) are sitting in the top ten in, respectively, week 4, week 3, and week 10. The Olivia Wilde comedy starring herself, Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz and Edward Norton grossed $3.9 million for the three days on about 2,100 screens. Curry Barker’s massive breakout is eyeing $2.5 million on 1,500 screens. And John Erwin’s biopic starring William Franklyn-Miller as George grossed $3.7 million at 2,200 locations. There’s a sequel in the works, 1776, for Angel’s strong performing historical epic.

The weekend dominated by The Odyssey and World Cup final also saw Maddie’s Secret from Magnolia Pictures — by and starring John Early — pass $1 million in week 5 on 84 screens, with an estimated $80.5k gros.

In moderate release, Gail Daughtry And The Celebrity Sex Pass from Sony Pictures Classics is looking at $124.4k on 357 screens in week 2 for a cume of $1.3 million.

Kino Lorber documentary Mary Oliver: Saved By The Beauty Of The World is eying $49k on 50 screens for a $171k cume in week 3.

New limited openings: Oscilloscope’s The Kidnapping of Arabella grossed about $11k at the IFC Center in NYC. Carolina Cavalli’s Italian road movie starring Chris Pine and Benedetta Porcaroli opened to multiple sold-out screenings. Adds La next week.

Sundance prize-winning doc American Pachuco: The Legend Of Luis Valdez debuted to $7.5k at the Film Forum in New York with a sold out show Friday night and a solid weekend turnout.

Jewish summer camp comedy The Floaters grossed $10k in week 2 on three screens for a $26.3k cume.

Remake from Music Box Films grossed $8.3k at six locations in week 2 for a $43.25k cume.

Greenwich Entertainment’s Reading Lolita in Tehran expanded to Los Angeles’s Laemmle Royal while holding over at the Angelika in NY, grossing an estimated $7k for a cume of $24k. Expands to about 100 theaters next week.

Spain Dominates Argentina, Wins The 2026 World Cup 1-0

Some experts predicted the 2026 World Cup Final could be a game for the ages, but it didn’t quite match Argentina-England in 1986. In fact, if there was a “Hand of God” in this one, it belonged to Argentina’s keeper, Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez, who was playing with a broken finger on his right hand.

But even divine intervention wasn’t enough to push the defending champions past Spain, which won its first World Cup Final since 2010.

Throughout the game, Martínez, kept Argentina in it, making 10 saves in the first 98 minutes of the game. That was an all-time record for the World Cup Final. By comparison, Martínez made nine saves total in the seven tournament games before the Final.

But Spain dominated the ball throughout with their trademark pressure. In the first half, they possessed the ball 62% of the time, with Argentinian great Leonel Messi only touching the ball once.

Argentina, as is their trademark, began asserting themselves in the second half, slightly dialing up the aggression — maybe too much so for midfielder Enzo Fernandez. He received his second yellow card in the ninety-second minute. That meant he was out of the game and Argentina played the remainder of extra time and the two overtime quarters one man down.

Spain had a chance to end it int he 98th minute with a free kick just outside the penalty box, but Martínez saved that one as well.

Regular time ended with Spain having 16 shots on goal and Argentina none.

Nico Williams Jr. put the ball in the net just before the 100th minute, but the goal was called back due to a foul in the box as Spain’s Mikel Merino stepped on Otamendi’s foot.

Then, in minute 105, Spain finally broke through with midfielder Ferran Torres smashing one into the net off a deflection. Fittingly, for a team that has won through great team play, it was Torres’ first goal of the tournament.

Tom Cruise made a guest appearance during the pre-show for the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.

Ahead of the matchup between Spain and Argentina to find out who becomes the soccer champion, the Digger star took the stage to deliver some encouraging words.

“More than 30 days ago, 48 nations began a journey,” Cruise said. “They crossed oceans. They crossed borders. They crossed cultures. And together they showed us why this game belongs to the world.”

He continued, “From three countries across them, and from every corner of the globe, we have witnessed greatness, and we have shared in moments of joy, moments of hope, moments we will all never forget. Football is a language spoken without words, a force that unites people, that turns strangers into friends and reminds us of what we all have in common.”

Cruise ended his speech saying, “As we gather for one final chapter, let us celebrate a tournament that brought the world together. Let us celebrate each other. This is football. This is unity. And this is greatness.”
