BoxLunch Serves Up Exclusives for D23 in Anaheim

Published

on

D23 (formerly D23 Expo) is a place where the world’s biggest Disney fans gather for a weekend full of announcements, informative panels and retrospectives dedicated to fan-favorite Disney moments. (If you’re wondering what D23 means, it is the official Disney fan club and named after the year that Walt Disney arrived in Hollywood. It used to have a physical magazine component but that has sadly been phased out.)

D23 happens every two years and this year’s installment is just a couple of weeks away. And one of the biggest components of the event is the exclusive merchandise. While the company has moved out small vendors, a controversial decision that has led to them setting up shop a few blocks away, it does mean that the big corporate partners will have more room to deliver items that you can only get by attending.

And one of those companies is BoxLunch, who will have a wide array of exclusive bags, pins and clothes. There will also, of course, be a specially-themed booth.

“This year’s theme is ‘BoxLunch Under The Bigtop,’ and we designed it as a fun, immersive walkthrough that puts our Disney products front and center,” Rick Vargas, senior vice president of Merchandise and Marketing at BoxLunch, said. “We want everyone stepping into our booth to feel like they’ve been transported straight to a carnival, packed with their favorite characters and next ‘go-to’ wardrobe staples.”

As for what to expect from said booth, Vargas explained, “Jackets, bags and pins are our top SKUs for D23 this year. With exclusives spanning Kingdom Hearts, Disney Princesses and ‘Cars,’ we’re bringing together totally distinct fan bases and showing just how big–and special–the BoxLunch community is.”

From what we understand, every day of the event will feature new exclusive pins that will be available for one day only and feature “premium details like sliding and dangling elements that bring your favorite stories to life,” along with products that you can purchase all weekend. Get a look at some of them below.

CBS Orders Comedy Pilot for ‘Hilda! (In Lights)’ From Abbey Caldwell

Published

on

CBS has ordered a pilot for comedy project “Hilda! (In Lights)” from TV writer Abbey Caldwell (“Laid,” “Fresh Off the Boat”).

Caldwell is attached to write and executive produce the single-cam pilot, which centers on a 70-year-old woman from Nebraska pursuing her dreams on Broadway.

The news comes less than four months after CBS revealed in April that it had ordered three scripts for the project, which was in development at the time.

The official logline is as follows: “One of those classic shows about a plucky small-town optimist who moves to the big city to pursue her life-long dream of starring on Broadway. There’s just one teeny, tiny, totally inconsequential difference… our hero Hilda is a 70-year-old woman from Nebraska with absolutely no experience.”

In addition to Caldwell, executive producers for the project include Will Graham, Max Linsky and Tonia Davis for Invitation Media. The show hails from CBS Studios

Caldwell’s writing credits include Peacock’s sex comedy “Laid,” which starred Stephanie Hsu and Zosia Mamet, as well as Fox’s “Krapopolis” and ABC’s “Fresh Off the Boat.”

In April, CBS also announced that it had ordered a development room to start writing scripts for “Flint” from Evan Katz, which has Matt LeBlanc attached as a star and executive producer should it receive a series greenlight. The project also hails from CBS Studios and Jerry Bruckheimer Television.

“Flint” centers on a burnt-out LAPD detective who, on the verge of retirement, is blindsided when the city extends his service by five years. Determined to get fired, he breaks rules and disobeys orders, which, to his dismay, makes him an even better cop, according to the logline.

Samantha Morton Says She’s Been Out of Work Since Filming ‘The Odyssey’

Published

on

Samantha Morton revealed she hasn’t worked since wrapping Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” despite delivering one of the film’s most talked-about performances.

During an appearance on Josh Horowitz’s “Happy Sad Confused” podcast on Monday, the actress, who plays Greek sorceress Circe opposite Matt Damon’s Odysseus, reflected on the politics of the industry and how it has changed in recent years.

“Hope and faith,” Morton said when asked what the recent critical acclaim has meant to her. “That I suppose if you keep at it, and you keep producing good work, and that the right people see it, then maybe you can carry on working.”

She continued: “I haven’t worked for a year since making ‘The Odyssey,’ you know, and I’ve got really good agents and a manager, but at the end of the day, I’m 49. I do believe I’m a good actor, [but] there are other good actors out there. Do you know what I mean? So, the politics of the industry has changed massively.”

Nonetheless, Morton shared that she felt confident that she’ll continue working well into her 80s. Though, elsewhere in the interview, Morton admitted she “cried” upon learning Nolan wanted to meet with her for “The Odyssey” – having previously missed out on a chance to be in his 2006 film, “The Prestige.”

“I think that life and art have a really bizarre way of intertwining and what’s for you won’t pass you,” she added. “But sometimes it’s hard to know that in the time, because there have been times when things haven’t worked out and I’ve been very sad both creatively and financially because I have three children and a mortgage and [a] life.”

Yet, Morton stood by the idea that “if you are earnest” and “have dignity and compassion” that success will follow. However, she encouraged others to “cherish” these moments forever, as “they’re few and far between.”

Morton has emerged as one of the stand-out performers from the stacked ensemble cast of “The Odyssey,” garnering early awards season buzz for only about 10 minutes of screentime.

Outside of her work in “The Odyssey,” Morton is best known for her work in independent films, including Woody Allen’s “Sweet and Lowdown” and Jim Sheridan’s “In America,” which earned her Oscar nominations for Best Supporting Actress and Best Actress, respectively. She’s also known for her performances in 2002’s “Minority Report,” 2016’s “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them,” AMC’s “The Walking Dead” and Starz’s “The Serpent Queen.”

Morton is set next to appear in Lisa Mulcahy’s “Love and War,” according to her IMDb.

CBS Greenlights ‘Hilda! (In Lights!)’ Comedy Pilot About 70-Year-Old Pursuing Broadway Dream

Published

on

In keeping with its long-term development strategy, CBS is the first broadcast network to order a pilot for 2027-28 consideration. The network has greenlighted the single-camera comedy Hilda! (In Lights!), from CBS Studios, which had been in advanced development.

Written by Abbey Caldwell (Laid), Hilda! (In Lights!) is described as one of those classic shows about a plucky small-town optimist who moves to the big city to pursue her life-long dream of starring on Broadway. There’s just one teeny, tiny, totally inconsequential difference… our hero Hilda is a 70-year-old woman from Nebraska with absolutely no experience.

Caldwell executive produces with Will Graham, Max Linsky and Tonia Davis for Invitation Media.

Hilda! (In Lights!) was among the first three projects in development at CBS that were identified as 2027-28 contenders with a move to the next stage after a pilot script as announced during the network’s fall 2026 schedule reveal in April.

Two of them, Hilda! (In Lights!) and forensic drama I Know Who You Are, received an order for two addition scripts each while CBS commissioned a development room for the third, cop drama Flint, starring and executive produced by Matt LeBlanc.

Additionally, CBS confirmed at the time that a medical spinoff in the world of Fire Country and Sheriff Country was in early development.

The Edgewater medical drama, I Know Who You Are and Flint — all from CBS Studios — remain active and in contention for the 2027-28 season, with a Sheriff Country planted spinoff episode for the first one considered likely.

With Hilda! (In Lights!), CBS is further pulling away from multi-camera comedy, a hallmark of the network for decades. In what is believe to be a first, CBS has more single-camera than multi-camera sitcoms on the schedule in the upcoming 2026-27 season with Ghosts and Eternally Yours vs. Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage.

If the pilot goes to series, it would give CBS a comedy and a drama with a female lead in her 70s as Hilda! (In Lights!) would be looking top join hit Matlock staring Kathy Bates.
