“Lilo & Stitch 2” will feature another character that fans of the franchise will be familiar with – Angel, the pink alien and Stitch’s girlfriend. The announcement was made through a brief title treatment at D23.

Maia Kealoha, who played Lilo in the 2025 blockbuster, took the stage to talk about the sequel. Then there was a brief title treatment, which teased the arrival of Angel – you could see her antennae rise up and make a Roman numeral “2,” er, “II.”

Angel, if you don’t know your “Lilo & Stitch” lore, is Experiment 624 (Stitch is 626 of course). She was introduced in “Stitch! The Series,” a show that followed the theatrical smash and has been present for a number of the “Lilo & Stitch” spinoff materials. She is also, crucially, a merchandising juggernaut, particularly in some of the overseas parks like Disneyland Paris. Angel sells a lot of plush.

The “Lilo & Stitch” live-action follow-up will be written and directed by Chris Sanders, who directed the original 2002 animated feature with frequent partner Dean DeBlois. Sanders was recently Oscar-nominated for his DreamWorks animated feature “The Wild Robot” and has remained an essential part of the “Lilo & Stitch” family, having voiced the character virtually every time he has appeared on screen or in theme parks ever since. Sanders is Stitch and Stitch is Sanders.

There is a new animated “Lilo & Stitch” short, entitled “Lilo & Scratch,” that will appear in front of Disney’s animated “Hexed,” in theaters this fall. (It looks incredible.)

“Lilo & Stitch 2” will hit theaters on May 26, 2028. And this time Stitch won’t be alone.

Last year the live-action adaptation of Lilo & Stitch proved to be a box office smash, and now Disney is giving the first look at the follow-up.

At the D23 fan event on Friday, the studio showed off a teaser from the upcoming film, revealing the addition of Stitch’s pink counterpart Angel. Also known as Experiment 624, Angel is another intergalactic alien who becomes Stitch’s love interest and was first introduced in Lilo & Stitch: The Series. “Wait, there’s two of them?!” Maia Kealoha, who starred as Lilo in the live-action movie, joked on stage as Angel’s aentenae were shown.

Lilo & Stitch 2 was put into development just a few weeks after the release of the first film, which went on to earn over $1 billion dollars at the box office, $423.7 million of that domestically. Chris Sanders, who co-created, co-wrote and co-directed the original Lilo & Stitch animated movie — as well as voiced the character of Stitch in both animated and live-action form — will direct the sequel, with Jonathan Eirich, who produced the initial live-action remake, back as producer via Rideback. The company’s Ryan Halprin is exec producing.

The story of the previous flim — a retelling of the beloved 2002 animated version — centers on a lonely girl who befriends a blue puppy, who she soon discovers is actually an escaped alien engineered to be a weapon of mass destruction.

The follow-up will be a brand-new story and is set to open in cinemas May 26, 2028, the beginning of the long Memorial Day weekend — following the same release pattern that the studio used in 2025. Alongside Sanders’ Stitch, the first film also starred Sydney Elizebeth Agudong, Zach Galifianakis, Billy Magnussen, Hannah Waddingham and Courtney B. Vance.

Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino made a special appearance at Disney‘s D23 fan event on Friday night, ahead of their follow-up to Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion.

Appearing in matching white ensembles, the pair took the stage with their signature Valley girl accents, revealing that in the sequel, fashion is still their lives, that they still own a boutique in Beverly Hills, and that they will now look for love.

“We’re officially Disney princesses,” an in-character Kudrow panned, as Sorvino added, “I always knew we had princess energy.”

The 1997 original, penned by Robin Schiff and directed by David Mirkin, saw Sorvino and Kudrow as Romy and Michele, two inseparable airheads who hit the road to attend their 10th high school reunion with a plan to lie about their successful careers to impress their classmates. Schiff, whose credits include Emily in Paris and Grosse Pointe, also wrote the sequel, which brings back some of the original stars along with some new additions.

Back are Janeane Garofalo as Heather, Alan Cumming as Sandy Frink, Camryn Manheim as Toby and Julia Campbell as Christie; they’ll be joined by Keegan-Michael Key, Rob Huebel, Breckin Meyer, Patrick Warburton and Nathan Lee Graham. Unlike the first installment, which hit the big screen as a theatrical release, the sequel will stream exclusively as a Hulu Original on Hulu and Disney+.

Romy & Michele was considered (barely) a modest success at the time of its release but has gone on to become a cult classic over the years. Fervor for a sequel heated up after Sorvino and Kudrow reunited to present at the SAG Awards in 2022, and now the follow-up has finally come to life. During a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, Kudrow confirmed “there’s a really funny script, and things are kind of moving toward it.”
