Apple TV
Dark Matter has a second season coming to Apple TV two years after the first one, based on the book by Blake Crouch, arrived on the streamer in May 2024.
Starring Joel Edgerton as Jason Dessen and Jennifer Connelly as Daniel Vargas, Season 2 picks up with the Dessens as they settle into a quiet life in a world that finally seems safe until they are forced to run again from the unimaginable. As Jason’s obsession with the Box deepens, Daniela’s (Connelly) growing paranoia pushes her to the brink, threatening to tear their fragile stability apart.
Elsewhere, Amanda (Braga) and Ryan (Simpson), who met up in the same alternate universe at the end of Season 1, unite to find their way home back to the original universe where Ryan won the Pavia prize. Blair (Brugel) is determined to stop Leighton (Okeniyi), who is chasing his grand vision of creating a perfect world.

What happened in Dark Matter Season 1?
the first season watched an alternate version of Jason kidnap himself with the help of his own invention — The Box — that allows a person to go into five-dimensional superposition and visit various alternate realities in which they exist.
For the purposes of Season 1, the first Jason viewers met was Jason 1, and the one that kidnapped him was Jason 2. Each had something desirable the other wanted, with Jason 2 regretting not staying with Daniela to see out her pregnancy and Jason 1 questioning whether he was happy at his job teaching community college versus Jason 2’s success at creating the Box and winning the Pavia prize.

EXCLUSIVE: Obscured Releasing has acquired North American distribution rights to Árru, the musical drama following a Sàmi family’s fight to protect their land from looming environmental threat.
The film from writer-director Elle Sofe Sara will get a theatrical release in early 2027 before launching on digital platforms later next year.
The film follows “a family of Sàmi reindeer herders as their way of life and Indigenous land face threat from an encroaching mining project. As protests and conflict continue, single mother Maia (Sara Marielle Gaup Beaska) turns to a long lost family member (Mikkel Gaup), giving rise to long buried family wounds and secrets.”
The feature uses traditional Sàmi song and dance “to portray familial catharsis and the connections between communities and their lands”.
Following its world premiere at Berlin, the movie went on to play Sydney and the Nordic Film Festival, and made its North American premiere at this year’s Tribeca film festival.
The project was produced by Elisa Fernanda Pirir, Mimmi Spång, Elle Sofe Sara and Jani Pösö. Executive producers include Jim Stark, Kristine Ann Skaret, Gary Cranner, and Axel Helgeland.
The deal was negotiated by Steven Bestwick of The Yellow Affair and Bill Guentzler and RJ Millard on behalf of Obscured Releasing.
The Yellow Affair has also sold Árru to international territories including Angel Distribution (Denmark), Bíó Paradís (Iceland), Filmwelt (Germany, Austria), Fivia (Ex-Yugoslavia), Otaku Mtü (Baltics), Palace (Australia / New Zealand). Theatrical distribution in Norway will be handled by Norsk Filmdistribusjon. The movie is a co-production with Garagefilm International (Sweden) and It’s Alive (Finland).
“I look forward to sharing our subtle musical family drama, Árru, with audiences in the U.S. in collaboration with Obscured Releasing,” said director Elle Sofe Sara. “With Árru, I wanted to tell a story about the resilience of women, the complexities of family bonds, and the power of finding one’s voice in the face of silence. I’m so pleased to have found a partner in Obscured who believes in the film and its journey to audiences.”
“Elle Sofe’s intimate and elegiac film showcases the passion of a family as they protect their way of life through beautiful and emotional ways,” added RJ Millard and Bill Guentzler. “Her originality of voice and storytelling are exemplified by the combination of dance, song and protest in creating something truly riveting.”

EXCLUSIVE: Tara Reid (American Pie) and Johnny Pemberton (Fallout) are attached to star in the independent horror feature Scissor Mouth.
Produced by 1905 Films and written and directed by Deborah Richards, Scissor Mouth is described as “a contemporary Southern Gothic horror inspired by an ancient Japanese folktale, using horror to explore society’s obsession with beauty”.
Set in the early 1980s, Scissor Mouth follows a teenage girl who escapes years of captivity at the hands of her beauty-obsessed mother, leaving a bloody trail of delay “makeovers’ across rural West Texas. The project is slated to shoot in New Mexico in 2027 with Patrick Wirtz producing.
The screenplay placed second in the horror category at the 2025 Slamdance Screenplay Competition, winning Filmmatic’s Horror/Thriller Screenplay Awards, and selected for the 2026 Grey List.
“Scissor Mouth is my response to the impossible standards of beauty and the scars they leave behind,” Richards explained. “I wrote Johnny Pemberton’s role with him in mind from the very beginning because I knew his unique blend of humor and heart was exactly what the character needed, while Tara Reid embodies the perfect mix of charm, unpredictability, and humanity for this world. I can’t wait to watch them make these characters their own.”
Producer Patrick Wirtz added: “We have a provocative, fearless script that speaks directly to the world we’re living in today. It’s the kind of horror that gets under your skin and stays with you. I believe it has all the ingredients to become a cult classic that audiences will want to watch, and rewatch, again and again.”
Reid is represented by Maverick Artists Agency and Wonder Street. Pemberton is represented by Independent Artist Group and Artists First. Richards is represented by Tammy Hunt at Sandstone Artists.
