Prime Video Revs Up Doc Series About F1 Driver Lando Norris

Published

on

Prime Video is on the starting grid with a docu-series about Formula 1 driver Lando Norris.

Lando (working title) is being billed as a “a never-before-seen look at the current F1 World Champion: a man who is not only defending his crown but also giving unprecedented access to a more personal side of his life, and what matters to him beyond the racetrack.”

The three-part show will launch globally in 2027. Box to Box Films is making the doc series, with Tom Keeling, Warren Smith and Jon Smith the executive producers. Clare Little is series producer and Ben Phethean is series director.

The 26-year-old Norris won the Formula 1 Drivers Championship last year and currently has a record of 13 race wins and 48 podium finishes. The series will explore his life over the course of a summer in the lead-up to his 27th birthday.

He said the doc has been “filming for a while already,” and added, “I already share a lot of what I get up to, but this is going to give people more access than ever before to my life away from racing. I’ve been really involved in the whole thing, so hopefully people will enjoy seeing more of what goes on behind the scenes.”

Norris has posted about the series on social media in the past few minutes, and Prime Video UK & Ireland will talk more about the commission later today at the Edinburgh TV Festival.

Pulitzer Finalist ‘Here There Are Blueberries’ Sets Fall Broadway Debut

Published

on

Here There Are Blueberries, the acclaimed play and Pulitzer finalist by Moisés Kaufman and Amanda Gronich, will open on Broadway this fall for a strictly limited engagement, producers announced today.

Conceived and directed by Kaufman, Here There Are Blueberries will begin previews on Monday, November 2 at the Barrymore Theatre in a co-production with La Jolla Playhouse. Opening night is set for Monday, November 9.

Additional information, including casting, will be announced shortly. Today’s announcement was made by Kaufman’s Tectonic Theater Project, Brian & Dayna Lee, Bruce Roberts, Sue Vaccaro, & Ricky Stevens.

The remarkable work, which had an Off Broadway premiere in 2024 at New York Theatre Workshop, tells the real-life story, in a sort of forensic detective-fashion, about the discovery in a Virginia home of a German photo album full of rare Nazi-era photographs unlike any seen before. In particular, the photos depict the daily and privileged lives of Nazi concentration camp guards stationed in special housing near the horrors of the camps themselves.

The synopsis: “In 2007, an album of Nazi-era photographs arrived at the desk of a U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum archivist. The photographs weren’t like any that had been seen before. As curators unraveled the truth behind the images, the album soon made headlines and ignited a debate that reverberated far beyond the museum walls. Based on real events, Here There Are Blueberries tells the story of these historical photographs—what they reveal about the perpetrators of the Holocaust, and our own humanity.”

A finalist for the 2024 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and winner of the 2025 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Play, Here There Are Blueberries will feature a creative team including scenic design by Derek McLane, costume design by Dede Ayite, lighting design by David Lander, sound design by Bobby McElver, and projection design by David Bengali.

In a statement, Tectonic’s Kaufman and Matt Joslyn said, “For Tectonic Theater Project, bringing Here There Are Blueberries to Broadway is the culmination of a remarkable journey. These photographs hold a mirror up to our humanity in the most intimate and unsettling way. We have to look at them – not to understand the people in the pictures, but to better understand ourselves.”

Added producers Brian and Dayna Lee, “We are thrilled to bring this extraordinary new play to the Barrymore Theatre,. This is a story rooted in history, but it is not a story safely confined to the past. At a moment when history itself is increasingly denied, distorted, or erased, Here There Are Blueberries reveals how ordinary people become complicit, and why remembering history is a vital responsibility.”

Prior to the Off Broadway engagement, Here There Are Blueberries had its first workshop production at Miami New Drama and received its world premiere at La Jolla Playhouse in 2022.

Here There Are Blueberries is produced by Tectonic Theater Project (Moisés Kaufman, Founder & Artistic Director; Matt Joslyn, Executive Director), Brian & Dayna Lee, Bruce Roberts, Sue Vaccaro, & Ricky Stevens, and Executive Producer 101 Productions, Ltd. Here There Are Blueberries is a co-production with La Jolla Playhouse and is produced in association with Michael Hormel and Midnight Theatricals. The play was devised by Scott Barrow, Amy Marie Seidel, Frances Uku, Grant James Varjas, and the members of Tectonic Theater Project.

Broadway Musical ‘Six’ To Close In January

Published

on

Six, the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical that uses modern pop styles to retell the stories of Henry VIII’s wives from the women’s point of view, will close on January 3, 2027, after nearly six years and 2,178 performances.

The closing was announced today by producers Kenny Wax, Wendy & Andy Barnes, George Stiles, and Kevin McCollum.

The musical by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, co-directed by Lucy Moss and Jamie Armitage with choreography by Carrie-Anne Ingrouille, was the first new musical to open on Broadway following the 2020 Covid shutdown. With previews that began on September 17, 2021, and an opening night on Sunday, October 3, 2021, Six has become the longest running show to ever have played the Lena Horne Theatre (formerly the Brooks Atkinson Theatre).

Capitalized at an initial $5 million, Six recouped the investment in December 2021, a quick turnaround due to the relatively low capitalization, moderate weekly operating costs of an estimated and approximate $469,000 and ticket-buyers enthusiasm for a critically lauded – and decided buoyant – musical loaded with fine, fun songs and clever premise extremely well executed. (Read Deadline’s original review here.)

In recent months, though, the Broadway show’s box office has been dwindling. For the week ending August 23, the show grossed $463,638, a big drop from the $600,000-$700,000+ range of its peak last year. During that August week attendance was at just 60% of the Horne’s capacity.

After premiering at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2017, Six opened in the West End in January 2019, then began performances on Broadway in February 2020 before its interruption by the shutdown. The musical returned to the then-Atkinson after the closings lifted in the fall of 2021.

The London production continues to run, as do tours in the U.S., the UK and Australia. Having previously completed runs in Amsterdam, Auckland, Barcelona, Berlin, Dublin, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Groningen, Las Vegas, Manila, Munich, Nagoya, Osaka, Seoul, Shanghai, Singapore, Tokyo, Toronto, Trieste and Zurich, Six returns to China later this year on a 12-week tour. A new Spanish-language production opens in Madrid this September.

A live capture film titled Six The Musical Live!, recorded at the Vaudeville Theatre, London, with the original West End cast reprising their roles, was released by Universal Pictures Content Group in the UK and Ireland last April and in the United States and Canada on August 14.

The Broadway production currently features Khaila Wilcoxon as Catherine of Aragon, Chloe Tucker Caine as Anne Boleyn, Natalie Paris as Jane Seymour, Olivia Donalson as Anna of Cleves, Aimie Atkinson as Katherine Howard, and Stephanie Jae Park as Catherine Parr.

An original Broadway cast recording was released in 2022 and earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Musical Theatre Album.

The Broadway production was nominated for eight 2022 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Original Score, Best Direction of a Musical, Best Choreography, Best Orchestrations, Best Costume Design/Musical, Best Lighting Design/Musical and Best Sound Design/Musical. The show won in the score and costume categories.
