James Gunn Is Writing His Next Movie
Amid Paramount’s industry-shaking acquisition of Warner Bros., James Gunn is remaining focused on his work.
When asked if he’s ready to start writing his next film to follow Man of Tomorrow, the DC Studios co-CEO revealed he’s “already in it” while awaiting the edit for his upcoming sequel to 2025’s Superman.
“I had to do something while I was waiting for the assembly!!” wrote Gunn to a fan on Threads.
After wrapping production on Man of Tomorrow in August, the fourth film in Gunn’s new DCU franchise is set to premiere July 9, 2027 in theaters.
Meanwhile, Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran are safe amid the Paramount-Warner Bros. Discovery merger after David Ellison invited the DC Studios bosses to continue working at the company, which has been renamed to Skydance. All film units, Paramount and Warner Bros, are to report into Paramount Pictures co-chairs Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein.
Since Gunn and Safran stepped into their position following the WBD merger in 2022, DC Studios has released Superman and Supergirl, with Clayface premiering Oct. 23 and The Batman: Part II currently in production, scheduled for a Feb. 18, 2028 premiere.

J. Todd Anderson Dead: ‘The Nice Guys’ Storyboard Artist Was 67
J. Todd Anderson, who worked as a storyboard artist on dozens of films from The Nice Guys and The Tragedy of Macbeth to Hail, Caesar! and The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, died Oct. 1. He was 67.
Anderson died at a hospital in Orange County, California, after a years-long battle with cancer, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Born John Todd Anderson in Springfield, Ohio, he started working in Hollywood in the late 1980s. The first film he storyboarded, 1987’s Raising Arizona, launched a long-running collaboration with filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen, aka the Coen Brothers.
Since then, he storyboarded every one of their movies, including 1990’s Miller’s Crossing, 1996’s Fargo, 1998’s The Big Lebowski, 2004’s The Ladykillers, 2010’s True Grit, 2016’s Hail, Caesar! and 2018’s The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. He also worked on Ethan’s Drive-Away Dolls (2024) and Honey Don’t! (2025), as well as Joel’s The Tragedy of Macbeth (2021).
Throughout his career, Anderson worked with several other auteurs and A-list stars on projects, such as George Clooney’s 2008 Leatherheads; Drew Barrymore’s 2009 Whip It; David Lowery’s 2018 The Old Man & the Gun; 2012’s The Dictator, starring and co-written by Sacha Baron Cohen; and three Shane Black pics, including 2016’s The Nice Guys, starring Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling, 2018’s The Predator and 2025’s Play Dirty, starring Mark Wahlberg and LaKeith Stanfield.
His other storyboard credits include 1989’s Twister, 1991’s The Addams Family, 1994’s Nadja, 2002’s Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, 2010’s The Big Bang, 2016’s Warcraft and 2023’s Fool’s Paradise.
Anderson also directed two films: 1999’s The Naked Man, which he wrote with Ethan, and 2008’s My Mummy.
In addition to his work behind the camera, he also made a few on-screen appearances in the films Fargo, Leatherheads, The Nice Guys and American Violence (2017), among others.
Anderson is survived by his mother, Donna Lou (Beaver) Anderson; his sister, Kimberly Patterson; and his niece, Haley Christ Patterson.

The 3 Best Movies to Watch on Prime Video This Week
We’ve made it to October folks! That means putting up decor, baseball (for some people), cozy blankets and more. And if you’re under a cozy blanket, that means it’s probably movie night, and you need something to watch.
As with the start of any new month, Prime Video got a whole slew of new additions, including the latest in the “Now You See Me” franchise. But, if you’re looking for a little bit of old with your new, we’ve got a recommendation in that realm. We even picked one sort of in the middle … ish.
Here are the three best movies to watch on Prime Video this week.

Now You See Me: Now You Don’t
Should this movie have been called “Now You 3 Me?” Yes, yes it should have. Do we all — and “all” includes the cast themselves — call it that in our hearts? Yes again.
“Now You See Me: Now You Don’t” is by no means the strongest entry in this franchise, but it’s still a part of this franchise, which means it’s a pretty fun ride. The threequel reunites the original Four Horseman, after Isla Fisher had to sit out the second film. But don’t worry, there’s room for more than one woman in the Horseman (theoretically) and Lizzy Caplan is still there too.
But, this movie also introduces the next generation of Horsemen, played by Justice Smith, Ariana Greenblatt and Dominic Sessa. Meanwhile, Rosamund Pike also joins up as the Horsemen’s latest villain.
“Now You See Me: Now You Don’t” does change its structure a bit, but at the end of the day, it’s a bunch of fun actors doing even more fun magic tricks. Just lean in to the fun!

Fever Pitch
We’re officially into October baseball, as well as proper Fall, so you might just be looking for a cozy rom-com. With “Fever Pitch,” you can combine the two. Though, sorry if you’re not a Red Sox fan.
Starring Drew Barrymore and Jimmy Fallon (hey, remember when Jimmy Fallon was just an actor?), the film tells the story of Ben Wrightman (Fallon), a young teacher and businesswoman Lindsey Meeks (Barrymore), as they fall in love. The relationship is going well until baseball season begins, and Lindsey learns Ben is obsessed with the Boston Red Sox. Like, crazy superfan kind of obsessed.
She tries to understand it, but eventually, it does impact the relationship, and choices need to be made. Don’t worry, it’s a 2005 rom-com, so it all works out in the end. It’ll be a nice little throwback this week, that especially hits if your team’s currently in the playoffs (the Red Sox aren’t, but the White Sox sure are!).

Chemical Hearts
If you’re looking for something to watch on Prime Video, I’m guessing you’ve recently come from watching “The Love Hypothesis,” which premiered at the end of September. If you haven’t seen that, go there first, then come back here.
You’re back? Great! Now you’re probably looking for more Lili Reinhart. And if you’re looking for her in another romance, “Chemical Hearts” is going to be your next move. Here, she stars alongside Austin Abrams (you may have just seen him recently too, if you made it to the theater for “Resident Evil”). Abrams plays a high school newspaper editor, who dreams of being writer.
He considers himself a romantic, but has never actually been in love. That is, until he gets to know Grace (Reinhart). But Grace has a troubled past and some secrets that come to light, throwing a wrench in their relationship.
“Chemical Hearts” is far heavier than “The Love Hypothesis,” so just be warned.
