Netflix Oscar Push for ‘Possible Love,’ Jeon Do-yeon for Best Actress
Seven award seasons after the Korean film Parasite broke the glass ceiling for non-English-language films at the Oscars by winning best picture, Netflix is angling to get another hugely acclaimed film from Korea the same sort of recognition: Lee Chang-dong’s Possible Love.
The Hollywood Reporter can exclusively report that the company is planning a multi-category Oscar push for the film, which is the first in eight years from Korean master Lee, and already has been awarded the Venice Film Festival’s Grand Jury Prize, placed second for the Toronto International Film Festival’s international audience award and is among 2026’s best-reviewed releases, with scores of 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and 93 on MetaCritic.
In addition to an Oscar nom for best international feature (Korea chose the film as its official entry way back in August), Oscar noms for best picture, best director and best original screenplay (Lee and Oh Jung-mi) are high-priority targets and seem achievable based on the success of non-English-language films in those categories over the decade since the Academy began significantly increasing the number of its members who are based outside of the United States (and are therefore less deterred by subtitles).
But Netflix feels that its strongest bet may be the performance of Jeon Do-yeon as Mi-ok, the outspoken half of a working-class couple that is opportunistically befriended by a very wealthy couple, and the company has decided to lobby hard for the 53-year-old to land a best actress Oscar nom. (She previously worked with Lee on 2007’s Secret Sunshine, for which she became the first Korean to win the Cannes Film Festival’s best actress prize, and is now one of Korea’s biggest stars.)
Unlike Netflix’s other 2026 ensemble-centric non-English-lanauge film, La Bola Negra, the full cast of which is being promoted in the supporting acting categories, the company has decided to promote the four principal stars of Possible Love in different categories. In addition to Jeon in the best actress race, it will ask voters to consider Sul Kyung-Gu, who plays Mi-ok’s traumatized husband Ho-seok, for best actor; Cho Yeo-jeong, a Parasite alum who plays Ye-ji, a wealthy woman pursuing an interview with Ho-seok for a documentary, for best supporting actress; and Zo In-sung, who plays Ye-ji’s playboy husband Sang-woo, for best supporting actor.
The streamer is hoping that the Actor Awards (formerly the SAG Awards), which embraced Parasite with an historic best ensemble nomination (and later an historic best ensemble win), will also recognize Possible Love with a nom in that category. Another key barometer of the film’s prospects may be the increasingly critics-aligned voting body of the Golden Globes, to which Possible Love is being submitted for consideration in the drama categories (as opposed to the musical or comedy categories). Given that two of the highest-profile best actress Oscar contenders — The Debut’s Julianne Moore and, somewhat surprisingly, Obsession’s Inde Navarrette — will be competing in the Globes’ musical/comedy actress race, the Globes’ drama actress race looks fairly open, which could bode well for the prospects of Jeon.

Bebe Neuwirth, Whitney Leavitt & More Set For ‘Chicago’ Anniversary On Broadway
Broadway‘s recording-breaking revival of Chicago will welcome back some old friends to celebrate the show’s 30th anniversary on Broadway this November, with former cast members including Bebe Neuwirth, James Naughton, Robyn Hurder, Whitney Leavitt, Ariana Madix and Alex Newell joining the current “Roxie Hart,” Reece Weaver, in the one-night-only celebration.
The 30th anniversary gala performance is set for November 16, 7 p.m./ET, at Broadway’s Ambassador Theatre.
The event will benefit the Entertainment Community Fund’s programs serving dancers. Additional celebrity guests will be announced at a later date.
Chicago, now in its 30th year, is the longest-running show on Broadway and the longest-running American musical in history. Both Neuwirth and Naughton were original cast members of the celebrated revival.
Leavitt, best known for her participation in Hulu’s The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, and Weaver, of Netflix’s America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, are two of the most recent cast members and have prompted a resurgence in ticket sales this year.
Tickets for the gala go on sale on Thursday, October 15.

Joe Rogan Sets Multi-Year Extension With Spotify
Spotify and top podcaster Joe Rogan have agreed to a multi-year contract extension.
The parties declined to specify terms, including financials. The Wall Street Journal reported that Rogan could end up with an “estimated earnout” of $250 million.
The new extension continues to broaden distribution of the show, which was exclusive to Spotify between 2020 and 2024.
The Joe Rogan Experience launched in 2009. Its 2,500-plus episodes have featured two- to three-hour interviews with a range of actors, comedians, athletes, politicians, authors and more.
The show was the top podcast on Spotify, YouTube, and Apple Podcasts in 2025. Since starting on Spotify in 2020, the show has gained 18 million followers, making it the streamer’s most followed podcast.
As the show’s audience has grown, so has Rogan’s clout in the political arena. His interview with Donald Trump before the 2024 election was credited with delivering a boost down the stretch, while the decision by opponent Kamala Harris not to travel to Rogan’s Austin, TX studio became a key part of autopsies of her failed campaign. Recently, Rogan has become more vocal about his skepticism about Trump, but many of his views align with those of the MAGA base.
In 2022, musician Neil Young pulled his music from Spotify over what he said was misinformation Rogan was spreading about vaccination. Spotify stood by Rogan. Young returned the music to the platform two years later.
In a statement, Rogan called the Spotify relationship “an amazing fit,” adding that he was “extremely happy and excited to continue with them for years to come.”
Jordan Newman, head of content partnerships at Spotify said Rogan “has built something incredibly enduring, and his show continues to resonate with a massive global audience because there’s simply nothing else like it.”

Prime Video Drama ‘The Assassin’ Gets Season 2 Launch Date & Trailer
“If anyone can get this done, it’s your mother,” Freddie Highmore‘s Edward hears in the first trailer for Prime Video thriller The Assassin Season 2.
Amazon’s streaming service has released a trailer and pencilled in a November 6 launch date for the show in the UK and Ireland. The show also debuts on Stan in Australia on the same day, with Banijay Rights selling piecemeal elsewhere. ZDF’s launch in Germany wasn’t revealed.
The Assassin stars Keeley Hawes the mother in question, Julie, opposite Highmore, who plays her son. Season 2’s trailer shows hitwoman Julie reluctantly teaming up with Edward once again, when his dream honeymoon with Kayla (Shalom Brune-Franklin) is hijacked and his new wife take hostage. “The honeymoon… couldn’t get any worse,” deadpans Edward as he reveals the news to his mom.
The pair are then thrown back into a world of high-speed car chases, international crime and kidnapping in Spain, as their fragile relationship is tested to the core.
Also returning alongside Hawes, Highmore and Brune-Franklin is Devon Terrell, with Arnaud Bindard, Natalia Tena, Boris Van Severen, Jacqueline Boatswain and Monic Hendrickx joining the cast along with Karl El-Santos, Mehdi Regragui, Casimiro Aguza, Tony Corvillo, Amin Hamada and Lolo Herrero.
Two Brothers Pictures produced the show for Prime Video UK and Ireland, ZDF in Germany and Stan in Australia in association with Banijay Entertainment stablemate Banijay Rights. Harry and Jack Williams, who both also serve as executive producers, are the writers, with Sarah Hammond, Alex Mercer and Daisy Mount also serving as EPs for Two Brothers Pictures, and Hawes and Highmore also serving in the same roles.
John Griffin is producer with Terry McDonough, another executive producer – directing episodes 1-3 and Sarah O’Gorman directing episodes 4-6. Jessica Mescall serves as casting director. Filming on series 2 took place in Malta.
Season 1 of the show streamed in the U.S. on AMC+.
