Baycurrent Classic: Michael Brennan holds on to win title in Japan ahead of Jacob Bridgeman and Keith Mitchell | Golf News
Michael Brennan won the Baycurrent Classic for his second victory of the season and third on the PGA Tour, parring the final six holes for a three-under 68 and a one-stroke margin over Jacob Bridgeman and Keith Mitchell.
Tied for the third-round lead with Bridgeman and Zach Bauchou in the FedEx Cup Fall event, Brennan rebounded from a bogey on the 10th with birdies on holes 11 and 12 before the winning par run at hilly Yokohama Country Club.
His best par save came on the par-3 16th when he hit a long shot from a greenside bunker to a foot. He finished at 16-under 268.
Bridgeman missed a chance to pull even on the par-4 17th when his five-foot birdie putt slid by to the right. On the par-4 18th, he had a 55-foot birdie putt over a large ridge that he left four feet wide. He shot a 69.
Mitchell was two strokes ahead after playing a five-hole stretch in five under with three birdies and an eagle. He then played the final 10 in two over for a 68.
Defending champion Xander Schauffele went to the 18th a stroke back, then drove left into trees and closed with a double bogey. He settled for a 67 to tie for fourth at 13 under.
Brian Harman (67) also was 13 under with Stephan Jaeger (70), Ryan Gerard (68) and England’s Jordan Smith (70).
Jordan Spieth, making his first start of the FedEx Cup Fall, tied for 13th at 11 under after a 67. Japanese star Hideki Matsuyama, the 2021 winner, tied for 21st at nine under after a 67.
Brennan has won the three titles in 33 starts. The 24-year-old former Wake Forest player took the Wyndham Championship in August and finished the season 46th in the FedExCup standings. He won the Bank of Utah Championship last year.

Eliud Kipchoge, 41, breaks course record at Melbourne Marathon
Two-time Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge says “his body is still peaking” after winning the Melbourne Marathon in a course record time at the age of 41.
The Kenyan crossed the line in two hours nine minutes 10 seconds for his 17th career win over the distance and first since the Berlin Marathon in 2023.
“I believe that my body is still peaking – still able to compete with the next generation,” Kipchoge said.
“The oldest athlete is still competing but I am happy to run with the Gen Zs.”
The course was partly raced along the Australian Formula One track at Albert Park and finished inside the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
“On the course, it was really wonderful, I enjoyed seeing people standing, cheering, and shouting my name,” added Kipchoge, who slowed down inside the MCG to wave to the fans.
“It was actually different – running on a beautiful course, but also running on the Formula One track, and above all else, finishing on a cricket ground.
“It makes me proud to run with the younger generation and inspire the running community in Melbourne.”
Australian Thomas do Canto was runner-up in 2:10:35, with compatriot Reece Edwards third.
New Zealand’s Camille French won the women’s race in 2:28:25, followed by Australian Sinead Diver and Nichola Sheridan of Ireland.
The Melbourne Marathon was the third leg on Kipchoge’s world tour, on which he hopes to complete a marathon on all seven continents, including Antarctica, over two years.
Each marathon will raise funds for the Eliud Kipchoge Foundation, which focuses on education, environmental sustainability and health.
Kipchoge is considered one of the greatest long-distance runners of all time, winning two Olympic marathon golds, plus a silver and bronze over 5000m.
His honours also include a world title, 12 World Marathon Major victories and two official world records.
In 2019 he became the first person to break the two-hour marathon barrier under special conditions in Vienna, clocking an unofficial time of one hour 59 minutes 40 seconds.
