The staff of the television anime adaptation of Keigo Shinzō’s Hirayasumi manga announced five more cast members on Tuesday, filling out the ensemble of this cozy slice-of-life series.
Who Is Joining the Cast?
The newly announced cast members are Daisuke Namikawa as Hideki Noguchi, Hiroto’s high school friend who now works in a trendy furniture store; Yōko Hikasa as Yomogi Tachibana, a career woman who feels empty after doing nothing but work; Yume Miyamoto as Akari Yokoyama, Natsumi’s first-ever friend; and Yūichirō Umehara as Ryō Ishikawa, a novelist going through a minor slump since his books stopped selling the way his debut did.
Rounding out the announcements, Japanese television announcer Yūko Naitō will serve as the series’ Narrator.
A Story About Being Fine With Not Being Fine
Hirayasumi follows Hiroto Ikuta, a carefree 29-year-old who has no girlfriend, no full-time job, and no plan for the future — and could not be happier about it. His breezy, go-with-the-flow attitude is not easy for everyone to understand, though. In a world filled with anxiety, confusion, and grief, Hiroto and the people around him are all simply doing their best, each in their own way.
The anime is a co-production with Shogakukan-Shueisha Productions Co., Ltd and Production +h., the studio behind several acclaimed recent adaptations. Shinzō’s original manga is published in English by Viz Media.
The cast announcements are coming thick and fast, which usually means a premiere date announcement is not far behind. Fans of gentle, heartfelt anime should keep a close eye on this one.
Slice-of-life anime about ordinary adults figuring out ordinary life has been quietly thriving, and Hirayasumi looks like a perfect fit for that wave. Shinzō’s manga has earned praise for its warm, unhurried look at people who do not have everything figured out — a premise that clearly resonated with readers.
The involvement of Production +h. is worth noting as well. The studio has built a reputation for thoughtful, character-driven adaptations, which is exactly what this material needs. Between the experienced cast and the careful production setup, the anime looks well positioned to capture the manga’s gentle tone.
