Prime Video has reportedly found its stars for “Fourth Wing”, the TV adaptation of Rebecca Yarros’ best-selling romantasy novels. According to a Deadline report, Esther McGregor has been cast as Violet Sorrengail, while Emilio Sakraya will take on the role of Xaden Riorson.
This is the first major casting news for the highly anticipated series — and arguably the most important. At the heart of Yarros’ steamy Empyrean fantasy romance is the relationship between Violet and Xaden, and how that dynamic translates to the screen will make or break the adaptation.
Who are the new leads?
Esther McGregor may already be familiar to some viewers. She appeared as Isabel in A24’s “Baby Girl” alongside Nicole Kidman and Antonio Banderas, and she also popped up as Tetha Grig, a pink-haired spice dealer, in an episode of “Obi-Wan Kenobi.” As many fans will know, she is the daughter of Ewan McGregor.
Emilio Sakraya is best known for playing ex-con Giwar Hajabi in the 2022 film “Rheingold”. He also had a stint as JC in the first season of Netflix’s “Warrior Nun.”
Meet Violet and Xaden
For anyone yet to dive into the books, here’s a quick primer. Violet Sorrengail is the series’ protagonist — beautiful but frail on the outside, with a deadly side underneath. Xaden Riorson is the dark, powerful and misunderstood rival whose secrets pile up with every chapter.
Both characters are cadets at Basgiath War College, where riders learn to master the powers granted by the massive dragons they bond with. If the books are any indication, the series has a dragon-sized fandom waiting for it.
