The fourth Brendan Fraser Mummy movie officially has a name — and a hint at what terrors are coming. Universal Pictures confirmed on October 15, 2026 that the film will be titled The Mummy: Book of the Dead, exactly one year out from its release date of October 15, 2027. The date was already on the calendar, but Universal says the movie remains firmly on track.
Fraser is returning as adventurer Rick O’Connell alongside Rachel Weisz as Evelyn O’Connell, picking up the story of the beloved action-adventure franchise decades after its heyday.

The Whole Gang Is Coming Back
The returning cast reads like a franchise reunion. Alongside Fraser and Weisz, the film brings back John Hannah, Michael Johnston, Numan Acar, Kevin J. O’Connor and Oded Fehr. Fehr already teased his comeback as Ardeth Bay with an Instagram post back in August, and recent set photos showed Fraser and Weisz in full costume, reprising their adventures together.
Behind the camera, directing duties fall to Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence, the duo behind the recent Scream films and Ready or Not. The screenplay comes from David Coggeshall (The Family Plan, Orphan: First Kill), while Sean Daniel — who has produced every single film in the series — returns to produce.
What Does “Book of the Dead” Mean For The Plot?
The title alone is setting fan theories alight. For those who need a refresher on Mummy lore, the Book of the Dead is the ancient tome containing spells that can resurrect the dead and summon the Warriors of the Book — it appeared in the very first 1999 film and was last seen in The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption.
Combine that with Oded Fehr’s return as Ardeth Bay, the Medjai warrior sworn to keep the ancient evil buried, and it looks increasingly likely that the series is going back to its roots — with Imhotep potentially rising once more to wreak havoc. After the franchise’s detour into the Tom Cruise-led Dark Universe reboot in 2017, a proper return to the Fraser-era tone with the original ensemble is exactly what fans have been waiting for.
With filming underway and a locked October 2027 date, expect set photos, a teaser trailer, and a whole lot of Fraser-phoria in the months ahead.
