Will Fish Challenges Cardiff City to Carry Home Form Onto the Road After 5-1 Watford Rout

Will Fish believes Cardiff City can turn their season around if they can take their fortress-like home form onto the road. The Bluebirds are unbeaten at home in the league but have lost four of their five away matches — a split the 24-year-old defender says has to change.

Cardiff reminded everyone what they are capable of on Tuesday night, dismantling Watford 5-1 at Cardiff City Stadium. It followed a 3-1 home win over Charlton and proved that a side that registers the most shots in the Championship can score in bunches when the end product clicks. Fish, who came on against the Hornets after Dylan Lawlor was forced off with a hamstring injury, felt a big win had been coming.

Possession Without Goals

Fish admitted Cardiff have not been ruthless enough in most matches this season. The numbers say they dominate — the division’s highest possession counts alongside those shot totals — but the defender is blunt about what actually matters: goals scored and clean sheets kept. Stats can be helpful, he said, but it is about what happens on the pitch.

Playing Catch-Up After Surgery

Fish himself is still finding his feet. The centre-back missed the start of the campaign after hernia surgery and effectively had no pre-season, so his first minutes against Watford were a welcome step back. Lawlor’s injury, just his second start after his own layoff, could open the door for Fish to get a run of games.

For Cardiff, the challenge is simple: bottle what they do at home and take it on the road. If Fish is right, the road ahead could look a lot brighter than the early away record suggests.
