Roman Reigns doesn’t get much time to take his foot off the gas when it comes to staying in WWE shape — and his daily diet shows just how strict things get when he is locked in for a major event. Opening up his refrigerators for Men’s Health’s “Gym & Fridge” series, The Tribal Chief broke down exactly what he eats to stay WWE ready.
Most of his prepared meals follow the same basic formula: a vegetable, a carbohydrate and a protein. That means a lot of chicken, ground beef and other simple proteins — and Reigns admitted the meals can become pretty boring when he is eating that way for long stretches. Steak sometimes enters the rotation, “but it just gets a little easier to eat once we get closer to the deadline.”
The Bland-Food Survival Strategy
The former Undisputed WWE Champion confessed that sauces are basically his survival mechanism through weeks of bland meal-prep food. “That’s how you get by this whole process of eating the most bland food in the world is you find the most bland condiments in the world with no calories and you just slather it all over that stuff and then you eat it.” He specifically gave sugar-free ketchup some love, plus Melinda’s sauce — joking that the company could send him a check.
Six Meals, Two Shakes, No Offseason
His daily routine starts with fasted cardio, followed by his favorite meal: scrambled eggs, oatmeal and blueberries, sometimes mixed with collagen or protein powder. Then it’s back to the meal prep. Trying to count it all, Reigns had to correct himself mid-sentence before landing on the real number: six meals and two protein shakes per day — four whole meals including breakfast, three from the meal prep, plus one shake after the workout and another after PM cardio.
And there is no real offseason to recover from it. “With the WWE schedule being year round, it kind of just never stops. I do have gaps here and there, but for the most part, we’re pretty locked in year round.”
