Liverpool came from behind to beat Brentford 2-1 at the Gtech Community Stadium on October 17, 2026, with Víctor Muñoz and Alexander Isak striking in the second half after Keane Lewis-Potter had given the hosts the lead. The Bees finished the game with nine men after red cards for Yehor Yarmoliuk and Vitaly Janelt.

Bees Strike First Before Red Card Turns the Game
Brentford started with real energy and were rewarded in the 44th minute when Igor Thiago crossed for Lewis-Potter, whose powerful header flew into the top-right corner past Alisson. Liverpool could count themselves unlucky in the first half too, with a penalty overturned by VAR after replays showed Dango Ouattara flicked the ball away from Alexis Mac Allister.
But the game turned just before the break. In first-half stoppage time, Yarmoliuk thrust his head into Liverpool defender Jérémy Jacquet while jostling before a corner, and referee John Brooks showed a straight red for violent conduct after a VAR check. Brentford went into the break 1-0 up but down to ten men.
Isak Inspires the Comeback on Injury Return
Liverpool made the extra man count after the restart. In the 62nd minute, Muñoz cut inside and finished from Florian Wirtz’s clever pass to level the score. Then in the 70th minute, Isak — making his return from injury — took a touch from Bradley Barcola’s knockdown after a Mac Allister cross and drove home the winner at dizzying speed, leaving Caoimhin Kelleher with no chance.
Brentford threatened an equaliser even with ten men when Thiago spurned a big chance from close range, but any hope died in stoppage time when Janelt collected a second yellow for tripping substitute Rio Ngumoha on the edge of the box.
Costly Win for Liverpool
The result lifts Liverpool above Brentford into fifth in the Premier League and inflicts the Bees’ first league defeat of the season. But the win came at a price: Dominik Szoboszlai limped off with a recurrence of his hamstring problem in the first half, while half-time substitute Jeremie Frimpong lasted only seven minutes before being forced off with a new injury. Manager Andoni Iraola confirmed the pair will be out for “some time.”
