Tarantino Has a Script for His 10th and Final Film — But He Wants to "Live" First

Quentin Tarantino has confirmed he’s “written a script” for his 10th and final film — but before he picks up a camera, he wants to go live a little first.

The Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood and Kill Bill director teased his plans during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show. Asked directly about his long-promised “10th” and “final film,” Tarantino didn’t hesitate: he has a script he could make, and one he happens to “really, really like” — but there’s a checklist to get through first.

“I’ve written a script that I could do that I really, really like, but I have to do the play and see who I am, right?” he said, referencing his upcoming West End play, The Popinjay Cavalier. “I’ll finish the play, and then I’ll go back, be with my family for a while, and then live and then see what that guy wants to do.”

The Play Comes First

Tarantino’s stage debut is no small detour. The Popinjay Cavalier begins previews on February 23, 2027 and officially opens a month later on March 18. That’s a full theatrical run before Tarantino even starts the “live” phase of his plan — let alone pre-production on a movie.

So fans hoping for a camera-ready announcement should settle in: between the play, family time, and whatever living Tarantino has in mind, significant updates on the final film are unlikely for a while.

A Promise a Decade in the Making

The idea of stopping at ten films isn’t new. Tarantino first floated the plan years before the release of his eighth film, The Hateful Eight, back in 2014. When Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood arrived in 2019 as his ninth project, the cap only grew more controversial — fans and critics alike have spent years arguing over whether a filmmaker at the peak of his powers should ever walk away.

For now, the script exists. The desire exists. But the man who wrote it first wants to go see who he is.
