Taylor Swift Gives 'The Fate of Ophelia' Its Live Debut at Academy Museum Gala

Taylor Swift closed out the Academy Museum 6th Annual Gala with her first full-band performance since the Eras Tour, delivering a four-song set to a black-tie audience on Saturday night in Los Angeles.

The 36-year-old singer-songwriter opened with “Blank Space” on acoustic guitar before giving “The Fate of Ophelia” its live debut — telling the crowd the song had never been performed live before. She then performed her Toy Story 5 original “I Knew It, I Knew You” and closed with a saxophone-backed “Love Story”.

A star-studded room

Swift was introduced by Conan O’Brien, who joked: “It’s an insane, unprecedented honor to introduce a cherished member of our little Toy Story 5 family. She’s John, Paul, George and Ringo all in one.”

The night honored John Carpenter with the Luminary Award, Colman Domingo with the Vantage Award and Charlize Theron with the Icon Award, and was co-chaired by Tom Ford, Robert Rodriguez, Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw. The fundraiser reportedly raised over $14 million for the museum’s exhibitions, screenings and education programs.

An awards-season statement

The song choices looked carefully calibrated: “I Knew It, I Knew You” plays directly to Oscars Best Song voters, while “The Fate of Ophelia” speaks to Grammy voters. Swift swapped her silver Dior red-carpet gown for a shimmering midnight-blue one for the set, and was spotted posing with Sabrina Carpenter and Cara Delevingne.
