Could KAIRI, a.k.a. Kairi Sane, be AEW-bound? AEW President Tony Khan didn’t shut down the idea at the WrestleDream post-event media scrum — instead, he said he is “very intrigued” by the possibility of the Japanese star appearing in AEW now that she is a free agent.

When asked about the possibility of KAIRI appearing in AEW, Khan was enthusiastic but careful. “She’s a fantastic wrestler. I can’t speak to that at this time but I am very aware and excited to see that she’s a free agent. I think that that’s very, very interesting, and I’m very intrigued by the possibility of that.”
KAIRI recently departed WWE, where she performed as Kairi Sane, and has been the subject of heavy speculation ever since. According to Fightful Select, she had still not signed with AEW as of WrestleDream weekend, though “light discussions have continued” — and there is reportedly heavy interest in her in Japan that is being held up by the AEW talks.
What Would KAIRI Bring to AEW?
A former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion and Mae Young Classic winner, KAIRI is one of the most decorated and beloved women’s wrestlers of her generation. Her high-flying “Pirate Princess” style and legendary wars with the likes of Shayna Baszler are still talked about years later. AEW’s women’s division — already featuring Mercedes Moné, Kris Statlander and the long-awaited return tease of “Timeless” Toni Storm — would become even more stacked with KAIRI in the mix.
With Khan openly intrigued and Japan waiting on the outcome of the AEW talks, this could be one of the biggest free-agent stories of the year. Watch this space.
