The highly anticipated original anime film Grotesqqque is giving fans an early treat — its “Yoroshiku★Girl” segment will stream for a limited time on Netflix Japan ahead of the film’s theatrical debut. The announcement came through the film’s official website on Monday, confirming the segment will be available from October 23 to November 5, just days before the film opens nationwide in Japan on November 6.

Directed by Atsushi Nishigori, the mind behind DARLING in the FRANXX and The IDOLM@STER, Grotesqqque has been building buzz since its world premiere at this year’s Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal. The U.S. premiere followed on October 8 in New York City, where the Japan Society hosted a special screening in collaboration with CloverWorks and Aniplex of America — with Nishigori himself appearing in person to introduce the film.
An Omnibus of Three Strange Worlds
Grotesqqque is structured as an omnibus film made up of three stories, each with its own distinct worldview. The segment getting the early Netflix treatment, “Yoroshiku★Girl” — also known as “4649 Girl” — plays on a classic Japanese number pun: 4649 can be read as “yoroshiku,” a casual way of saying “nice to meet you.” The kanji behind the playful title reportedly carry a darker double meaning, something like “Evening Dew Heads to Its Death★Girl,” a tonal whiplash that fits the film’s grotesque branding perfectly.
The second announced segment is titled “Nocturne: Nuit Grotesque” (Nocturne: On This Grotesque Night), a title that leans into the film’s European gothic flavor — it has even been rendered in French as “Nocturn: En Cette Nuit Grotesque” in previous promotional material. Each story also features music from a roster of 35 contributing musical acts, making the project as much a musical experiment as a visual one.
The Team Behind the Grotesque
The film comes out of JOEN, the joint venture established by Sony music subsidiary Aniplex, the CloverWorks animation studio, Production I.G sister company Wit Studio, and publishing giant Shueisha. Nishigori is pulling triple duty as director, screenplay writer, and character designer. The band METALVERSE performs the opening theme “Shoot Shoot Shoot,” while Haoto performs the ending theme with lyrics by momosu momosu.
With its festival pedigree, all-star production backing, and now an early Netflix window for one of its three segments, Grotesqqque is shaping up to be one of the most talked-about original anime films of the year. Fans in Japan can catch “Yoroshiku★Girl” from October 23, with the full omnibus experience arriving in theaters on November 6.
