Clash Royale Board Game Smashes Kickstarter Goal in Under an Hour

Fans of the mobile battler can finally touch their decks. Clash Royale: The Grand Arena, the official tabletop adaptation of Supercell’s hit card game, launched its Kickstarter campaign on October 20 — and hit its crowdfunding goal in less than an hour.

The board game comes from Maestro Media, the same studio behind the successful Clash of Clans: The Epic Raid board game — this is the team’s second collaboration with Supercell. The design team of David Gordon, Ryan Rodriguez, and TAM set out to translate the mobile game’s deck-building and tower-rushing strategy into a cardboard experience for two to four players, with matches running about 30 minutes.

Tower Sieges, Now on Cardboard

Each player builds an eight-card deck around a chosen Champion, with an Evolution card staying in their arsenal for the whole match. Players take turns across a two-lane board, deciding where to launch attacks, plant defensive units, or play items — all limited by the classic resource, Elixir. Just like the mobile game, destroying another player’s Tower earns a Crown, and the player with the most Crowns at the end takes the win. Decks can also be upgraded between battles.

Supercell’s Tabletop Push

Supercell’s head of licensing Andrea Fasulo framed the project as honoring Clash Royale’s competitive spirit, while Maestro Media founder Javon Frazier said the team is excited to give the Clash Royale community “a new way to play in a world they already love.” With the campaign funded in under an hour, it’s clear the appetite was there — and this is far from Supercell’s last transmedia move, with the animated CLASH Netflix show also in pre-production.
