The news hit Steve Maclin so hard he cried. In a new Maple Leaf Pro YouTube documentary, Maclin revealed he started tearing up the moment he learned he’d be facing Adam Copeland in the main event of MLP Northern Rising on October 3rd — with his wife right there beside him.

A Dream Match Nearly Destroyed by Injury

It was a bucket-list pairing for both men: Copeland ticking off the legendary Maple Leaf Gardens as a venue, Maclin finally facing a dream opponent. But just two days after getting the call, disaster struck on an independent show — Maclin suffered a spiral fracture in his fibula.

The timing was brutal. As Maclin tells it, his mind was racing: he’d just entered free agency, was in talks with promotions, and was about to wrestle Adam Copeland — and suddenly it all seemed gone. His foot had bent completely outward, and the first step was simply getting home, getting x-rays, and finding out what the doctor said.

Six Weeks in a Walking Boot, One Date in Mind

The diagnosis: no surgery needed, but six weeks in a walking boot. Maclin set his sights on one thing — October 3rd, Maple Leaf Gardens — and never doubted he’d make it. He worked his way through the MLP story in Windsor on a broken leg to get to Northern Rising, where Copeland ultimately won the main event.

“I started tearing up… It’s just a moment you don’t ever think is going to happen in your career,” Maclin said of the moment he got the news. Even knowing he’d be cast as the man who might ruin Copeland’s night, Maclin saw the bigger picture: putting his name on the map and showing the world who Steve Maclin is.
