Techland’s founder and CEO Pawel Marchewka has confirmed that Dying Light: The Beast is officially done getting updates. During a Discord AMA with fans of the parkour-fueled zombie series, Marchewka announced the end of support for the standalone release that landed last year, despite its origins as a planned expansion for Dying Light 2.

A Complete Game, Not A Live Service
The Beast recently received the Restored Land update, which allowed players to clear out the zombies across the map and bring civilization back to the world. But Marchewka was blunt about what’s next: nothing major.
“Dying Light: The Beast is a complete game, and that’s how players should approach it — much like Dying Light 1 is today,” Marchewka said. “We’re not planning substantial new content for it.” He went on to say that The Beast was planned as a “complete, self-contained game from the start,” though the studio still shipped substantial free updates over the past year, including new weapons and more.
The Five-Year Support Model Didn’t Work
Marchewka didn’t mince words about why Techland is stepping away from long-tail live service support. “The five-year support model hasn’t worked as well for us as we hoped,” he admitted. “We’re an AAA studio. With each new game, we want to deliver an unforgettable experience and push the boundaries of what games can do.”
He explained that maintaining multiple games with smaller teams can “seriously disrupt work on new projects,” especially when players expect “frequent, substantial, high-quality updates — sometimes several times a month, and usually for free.” With limited resources, he said, “we can end up disrupting production and still disappointing players.”
The message is clear: Techland is shifting its full weight toward its next release. For fans of The Beast, the game as it stands today is the definitive version.
