Asia Kate Dillon, known for their groundbreaking role as Taylor Mason on Showtime’s “Billions” and as the Adjudicator in “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum”, took to social media on Tuesday with a candid plea: after eleven years in the industry, their acting work has “all but diminished,” and they’re looking to return to the service industry.
Back To Their Roots
In an October 20 Instagram post, Dillon shared their food service résumé, walking through the jobs they’ve held since age fifteen — from dishwasher to floor manager to food runner. “When I was fifteen, I got my first job in food service,” they wrote, staying in the industry until they could support themselves as a full-time actor a decade ago.
“Like many, many performer colleagues of mine — particularly those of us who are trans/nonbinary/gender nonconforming — acting work has all but diminished, and I’m in need of service work once more,” Dillon wrote.
A Groundbreaking Career
Dillon became the first nonbinary main character in a North American television series in 2017 with their role on “Billions,” and had a recurring role as Brandy Epps on “Orange Is the New Black.” They’ve also been a vocal advocate for gender-neutral awards categories, pushing the Emmys and SAG to rethink gendered acting categories.
Rather than bitterness, Dillon’s post was full of optimism about the move: “I love customer service. I love creating welcoming environments for people to relax in and connect with each other. I love food and drinks. I am passionate and curious, and a great teammate.” They joked the biggest hurdle would be learning new POS systems — “but I’m a quick study.”
