Shingo Natsume and Madhouse’s original anime film ghost – end of night is fleshing out its voice cast. The official website announced three new cast members on Wednesday, led by Kenjirō Tsuda, ahead of the film’s Japanese theatrical debut on February 11, 2027.

The three newcomers join Issei Takahashi, who was previously announced as Masu. Tsuda voices Moby Dick, a man who takes a special interest in the protagonist Neekei. Hiroki Yasumoto plays Karate, Masu’s childhood friend and a section manager at the observatory where Neekei works, while Hiroshi Kamiya plays Itō, another childhood friend of Masu who serves as the observatory’s mental coach.
An Original Story About a Content-Saturated Near Future
The film is set in a near future where labor is no longer necessary, following Neekei, a girl who keeps searching for the “real” while resisting the order of a content-driven society. The premise promises Natsume’s signature mix of grounded character drama and reality-bending ideas.
The project marks Shingo Natsume’s first time directing an original anime film. Natsume, best known for directing One-Punch Man, Sonny Boy, Space Dandy and ACCA: 13-Territory Inspection Dept., is also writing the script. Manga creator Natsume Ono (ACCA, House of Five Leaves) provides the original character designs, with Norifumi Kugai adapting them for animation. Bandai Namco Filmworks will distribute the film.
Music, Manga, and Festival Screenings
Alternative rock band hitsujibungaku will perform both the theme song and the insert song “Sugar.” The film already enjoyed a festival run, screening at Animation is Film in October alongside GKIDS and the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. A manga adaptation by artist himiko launched in Kadokawa’s Young Ace magazine on August 4.
