Disney is going back to the Cromwell house. The studio is in early development on Halloweentown 5, the fifth film in its beloved Halloween movie franchise, as reported by Variety on October 22.

Plot details are not yet known, but the new movie is being written by Lily Houghton and Ryan Koehn, based on characters by Paul Bernbaum — who wrote the original Halloweentown film back in 1998. Casting is not confirmed either, though multiple cast members from the original movies have previously expressed interest in reprising their roles.
Halloweentown 5 Writers and Release Plan
If greenlit, the new Halloweentown movie will air on both Disney Channel and Disney+, putting it on the same dual-release path Disney has used for its biggest franchise revivals. The first four films aired on Disney Channel between 1998 and 2006, becoming staples of the network’s “13 Nights of Halloween” programming.
The franchise followed Marnie Piper (played by Kimberly J. Brown in three of the four films) and her siblings as they discovered they were witches from the magical town of Halloweentown, hidden from the mortal world. Debbie Reynolds starred as their grandmother, the powerful witch Aggie Cromwell — a role fans have cherished for nearly three decades.
A Long-Awaited Return to Halloweentown
Fans have been campaigning for a fifth film for years, and original cast members have been open about wanting to return. With Disney now mining its vault for legacy sequels — and Houghton and Koehn attached to write from Bernbaum’s characters — this is the furthest a Halloweentown revival has ever gotten.
There is no word yet on whether Marnie, Aggie’s legacy, or the next generation of the Cromwell-Piper family will take center stage. But with development officially underway, spooky season may soon have a new chapter to celebrate.
