The Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Hechicero showdown at CMLL x NJPW Lucha Kingdom on November 16 just got a whole lot bigger. What was originally announced as a singles match at Arena Mexico is now officially a CMLL World Heavyweight Championship bout, with three new matches added to the lineup in total.

From Challenge to Title Match

The road to the title match began when Zack Sabre Jr. issued a challenge to Hechicero backstage at King of Pro-Wrestling. Since then, Hechicero has put in the work of a champion, defending his CMLL World Heavyweight title against Liam Slater in the UK.

The stakes were raised after their history at CMLL’s Anniversary card in September, where Sabre challenged for Hechicero’s title as part of a three-way match with Claudio Castagnoli. Hechicero, known as ‘El Conjuro,’ retained the gold, but with ZSJ not involved in the decision, the door stayed open for a one-on-one rematch.

Can ZSJ Make British History?

Now the rematch is official, and the question hanging over Arena Mexico is a simple one: will Zack Sabre Jr. become the first British holder of the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship? Hechicero has proven near-impossible to beat in singles competition, but Sabre is arguably the best technical wrestler on the planet, and title matches have a way of bringing out his best.

More Matches Added to Lucha Kingdom

The card is filling out nicely beyond the new title match. A singles bout between Soberano Jr. and Shota Umino has been added to the show, along with a big eight-man tag team match pitting Zandokan Jr., Difunto, Barboza, and Furia Roja against KUSHIDA, Black Tiger, Yutani, and Shoma Kato.

Lucha Kingdom continues to look like one of the most stacked cross-promotional cards of the year. Also Read: IWGP Women’s Title Bout and Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Hechicero Added to CMLL x NJPW Lucha Kingdom
