Jenna Ortega doesn’t read reviews, doesn’t watch her own movies, and doesn’t check box office numbers — and now she’s revealed she plans to “be off TV for a while” once Wednesday ends.

Jenna Ortega Vogue Cover Story: No Reviews, No Box Office, No More TV
In a new Vogue cover story, the Wednesday star opened up about her “nonexistent relationship” with how the public receives her movies. Ortega told Vogue she doesn’t watch her own movies or read reviews — because “that would send me into a psychosis of some sort” — and doesn’t check box office updates when her team sends them her way because “I don’t want it to become a numbers thing.”
For most of her movie career, Ortega gauged the chatter around her projects through social media. But she’s pulling back from that too, saying she’s on social media “less and less” because “so much of what you see on there nowadays is just garbage AI” — plus, she notes, “we all look at ourselves too much.”
“Off TV for a While” After Wednesday Ends
The biggest reveal came separately on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, where Ortega said she hasn’t had many franchise conversations: “What I’m meant to do will come and find me,” she said. “I think after Wednesday, I’ll probably be off the TV for a while. You know I had many years doing [TV]. I was bouncing from show to show as a kid and I want to leave time for new things.”
To be clear: there’s been no word that Wednesday is ending with its upcoming third season, which isn’t expected until 2027 — meaning roughly five years could separate the show’s debut from season 3. But Ortega has been signaling a film-first future for years; back in 2023 she told The Sunday Times, “I had done so much TV in my life, all I’ve ever wanted to do is film.”
Ortega’s Film Slate: Klara and the Sun, The Gallerist, The Great Beyond
She’s putting her money where her mouth is. Ortega is currently promoting the Taika Waititi film Klara and the Sun, where she stars as an artificial companion opposite Amy Adams. She also leads a dark comedy thriller from Cathy Yan titled The Gallerist, which premiered at Sundance earlier this year, stars in J.J. Abrams’ sci-fi fantasy The Great Beyond (out October 1, 2027), and is attached to a remake of the thriller Single White Female.
With that film slate, a TV break seems less like a risk and more like a reward. Whether or not she ever looks at a Rotten Tomatoes score, the rest of Hollywood clearly is.
