The Apothecary Diaries movie theme song is officially here. A brand-new trailer for The Apothecary Diaries: The Late Lady’s Treasure dropped this week, previewing the film’s theme song “Haru ga Tomori” (Spring Is Aglow) by Kenshi Yonezu, one of Japan’s biggest musical acts.
The trailer arrived alongside a new main visual and a character relationship chart on the film’s official website, giving fans their clearest look yet at the franchise’s first original feature film, which opens in Japanese theaters on December 11.

The Apothecary Diaries Movie Theme Song and New Trailer
The trailer previews “Haru ga Tomori,” Yonezu’s new track for the film. Yonezu is no stranger to blockbuster anime tie-ins, with credits including hits for Chainsaw Man and My Hero Academia, and his involvement instantly raises the film’s profile beyond the existing fanbase.
The film tells a brand-new story written by original novelist Hyuganatsu herself. It follows Maomao and Jinshi as they journey to the hometown of a concubine who died five years ago in the imperial harem, tasked with returning her remains to her homeland. There they run into river pirates, hidden treasure, the secret of the Empress’s remains, and a mysterious boy who holds the key to the story.
The voice cast keeps growing. Mariya Ise joins as the key Bi clan character Mu Qing, with Nobuo Tobita as clan head Birō, Kumiko Watanabe as his wife Shūu, and Hirofumi Nojima as eldest son Bisen. Kenshō Ono plays Kajadan river pirate leader Suija, while Miyuki Sawashiro voices the late courtesan Ruoqing, whose dying wish drives the entire plot.
New Stories, Novelization and Season 3 Tie-Ins
Hyuganatsu isn’t just overseeing the film — she’s expanding it. The film’s novelization, written by the author herself, goes on sale December 9, and includes elements that didn’t make it into the movie. She also wrote “Kiro no Himawari” (Sunflowers on the Road Home), a short story about Maomao and Jinshi that serves as the film’s epilogue. It will appear in 1.5 million booklets given out at participating theaters from opening day, along with author and cast interviews and draft art for the teaser visual.
Meanwhile, NTV’s Friday Roadshow block will air a special compilation of the second part of TV season 2 on December 11 — including about four minutes of brand-new footage that links into the film’s last scene. The anime’s third season premiered October 2, with its second cour set for April 2027.
Crunchyroll has acquired worldwide rights outside Asia (including India) and will announce its release date with Sony Pictures Entertainment at a later time.
